I got my 4029s up and running today. What a lot of fun, but they're pushing the limit of my amplifier. I'm going to try them on a larger amplifier and see how they do.
 
Glad to hear you are giving them a try. I'm assuming that you refreshed the crossovers and such?
I have an original pair of 4024's, all veneered sides. One of these days or years I will make them right, possibly VL basic mods, but not the length that @RS Steve went to, his were awesome!

The 4029s came to me as a pair with one missing a woofer. I was able to locate a pair of 4024 woofers, but with damaged dust caps. I cut out the old ones and installed a new set of dust caps from an eBay seller. Put some old English on the cabinets to make them look a little less dry, and took some steel wool to a couple blemishes.

Have not yet changed the caps, done VL mods, or fixed the foam in the midrange driver. Gonna do one thing at a time. I am on the fence about if I want to do VL mods or not, but leaning toward yes. Want to borrow an LCR meter somewhere to make/scavange inductors for the VL crossover.

Driving them with 70W, it just isn't enough. Trying to push them a little I can hear my amplifier clip. Going to try again with a 180W amp and see how it sounds. Absolutely love how they look.

I've got them on the big amp now, and I've confirmed that one of the woofers is distorting at high volume, while the other isn't. I'm going to swap the woofers between the cabinets to make sure it's the woofer and not something else. If it is, I've got the single 4029 woofer needing a refoam, or else there's always that parts express woofer. Shipping to Canada is crazy but I can probably get them when I'm in the states.
