Ortofon 2M on a thorens tp16 headshell ???

Does anyone with a Thorens TP16 headshell run a Ortofon 2M cart . A friend is picking up a 2m for his TD160 and I read that these carts do not fit in that headshell , unless you remove the top plate . If any thorens owners can chime in that would be great .

I'll pop this one too John.

My guess is that top mounting is the only way, unless access can be gained from underneath with the stylus assembly removed. Even then would the screw heads prevent the stylus assembly from fitting back in place.

Stupid Ortofons

It only takes a little simple surgery to make the modification to the head shell and when you are done, no one will be the wiser.

Take a razor blade and go around the badge on the top of the head shell and lift it off.

Use the same razor to cut away some of the plastic where they've melted the retainer to hold in the nut plate.

Install your cartridge and perform the alignment.

Use some light adhesive to reattach the badge.

Other pluses are that you can use 2.5mm hardware & the Baerwald protractor.
