Ortofon 2M Red, what say you ?

DL103 would work better with a higher mass arm than a 3009 S2 Improved. And the SC35C needs heavier tracking than that arm is capable of.
No, the compliance of the SC35C is entirely dependent on the stylus you run, since the suspension is in the stylus. Put a Shure v15 tip on there for light arms. I'm running a V15 HE on mine with fantastic results on my secondary system.

I like mine that came with a turntable I bought. The Ariston RD 60 has the Enigma arm, which can handle a lot of different cartridges. It sounds great in my system for the price, though not anywhere near the fat sound of the Denon DL-103R I had on my last table. My Sonus Fabers are pretty mellow in the highs, which I think helps the "brightness" of the Red. Overall it's a solid performer, perhaps not a world-beater as it was touted when it came out...

I think that the Ortofon 2m red is an excellent cartridge, depending on what you're looking for.

It's a fairly detailed cartridge for the price, but it's real advantage from my perspective is its high output. If you find your speakers to be underpowered, or would simply like to keep the volume knob turned down a little lower, then the 2m red is a great candidate. I've hypothesized that it might have been designed this way to make smaller hifi systems seem more impressive. I don't mean it as an insult either; it's actually pretty neat!

In short: If you're looking to give your system more kick, it's worth trying. If you're more than satisfied with the power of your system, the recommendations already given in this thread are great options. If you're looking for a warmer sound, Grados are also an interesting choice.

My Grado is pretty similar to Shure, just a bit more bass heavy where the Shure is pretty even handed. The Shure is a touch smoother sounding. Both are warm carts

When I needed to replace a Ortofon 510 mk zII they asked what i had which is a Marantz 2245, a Technics Sl 3200 and Dynaco A25s. The guys where i go locally also asked my musical tastes and they recommended the Red and down the road upgrading to the blue stylus is an option.
