Ortofon Concorde Music Black VS 2m Black: Blind test comparison (w/ audio samples)

Q-E-2

Hi there! :)

Since the new Ortofon Concorde Music series has been introduced, I thought it would be useful to compare it against the 2m series in a blind test:

Which is your favorite? TOMORROW at around 18:00 (CEST) I'll unveil which is which. Cartridge B currently leads the race so far on YouTube.

I've also prepared some lossless audio clips so you can evaluate the differences between the two carts more accurately: https://2ly.link/1yJkH

I found that the varying levels were a bit obfuscating.

On the occasions that the levels were equal, the two carts sounded very hard to distinguish. This may have just been the limitation of YouTube low-rez replay over my crappy PC speaker.

If pushed, I'd say A was a bit smoother and B was a bit more dynamic - if slightly brighter. (NOT bright, per se...)

Tough challenge.

So it raises the question of 'What exactly are these cartridges?'
The stylus looks like the equivalent OM series stylus (10, 20,30,40) and the cartridge coil/magnet system is maybe from the 2M series, copper or silver plated copper version, or maybe from the OM series. Looking at the specs it doesn't appear to match the Concorde DJ cartridges.
So it looks like Ortofon are basically keeping the OM series alive along side the 2M in a manner of speaking.
Nothing wrong with that IMO as both are excellent cartridges.
