In the last few months I have been reading reviews of the latest Ortofon cartridge .....it is aimed at the budget end of the market and casts around 30 USD ....it seems to be a OM design and it attracting some excellent reviews.......it comes with an eliptical stylus which is a tipped one not a nude but at 30USD thats not bad....it needs to be aligned well but seems to be an excellent performer.....clearly its not the very best range but it sure does seem to impress some reviewers........it seems that Ortofon have not got it on their official page but it is out there . There seems to be no replacement Omega styli .you just buy another cartridge and I think you can replace it with the 3,5,10,20,30 or even 40 Om sytli if you want.

For the under $50 line-up I'm a booster of the Shure M92E. I bought mine in 2011 for $19 and now they go for $50. The prices increases for cartridges have just been crazy!

I like the Omega, and it's the only really upgradeable budget cartridge. It tracks great, sounds very good, and works well on a wide variety of tonearms.

I am running one and really like it. At first I wasn't super impressed as it sounded a bit bright and had some inner groove distortion. I ended up putting a pad under my platter mat, raising the arm pretty close to horizontal on my table. Man what a difference. The bass is much better and it seems to track better too.
