Now look at this. I`ve heard of Mk1 and Mk2 so I bought one of each type and though that was it. But I was wrong. Do not know how much wrong yet but until now I have "discovered" four types of openings in the cartrigdes and six different styluses.

On the positive side; bought one of the cheapest M20E replacement styluses from Williamthakker and discovered two things. First; it did not fit my M20 gold-body (that has a opening like the blue at right side) but it fitted my VMS silverbody so I tryed it out in there.

And then the surprise; it sounded exactly like the original , exept for one small difference. The cheap replacement is a bit moore dynamic, most noticeable in the bass area. Impressive performance, and it has only a couple of hours on it.

Bought this old VMS used, still a good stylus but when I pulled it out of the cartridge-body I can see it is oxyded. Will try to clean it off and then do a rematch, but anyway; this
cheap stylus is a keeper.

I've got a VMS something or other on one of my tables, and I keep meaning to grab another stylus for it. I've always enjoyed its performance.
 
I have a VMS Mk II body. It has a 10E stylus that has a failed cantilever.

I really like the VMS Mk II and have been thinking of getting the 20E stylus for it.

where do the Ortofon experts rate the VMS? I also like the OM series. I have not been impressed with the 2M. Did not like the Red, the Blue is ok. I heard a Bronze at an audio dealer and it was ok, the system it did not sound better than what I have at home. I heard the 2M Black at another audio dealer and the entire system was phenomenal and extremely expensive (like 6 figures $) so it was hard to tell what impact the cartridge really had.
 
bobins; does Your Mk2 have the hourglass-opening? If so I can recommend the one I`ve linked from Williamthakker.

About Ortofon-rankings; these old MI-cartridges are from another time than the modern CD-like cartridges of today. They make vinyl sound like it should, like it used to.
Tube-like, warm, open, dynamic and without any disturbing "details" flying around in the room, just a deep open 3D picture. Recommended
