Ortofon VMS30 Mk2 Replacement/Alternative

I've been running an Ortofon ff15e on my Technic's SL-D3 for about 5 years, they've seen me through thick and thin and have never let me down, however, I was recently given a box of audio related bits and pieces which included a head shell containing a VMS30 Mk2, I cleaned it up and gave it a spin, wow! what an improvement... then a very unfortunate sequence of events occurred... my record cleaning brush fell off the shelf above my turntable, bounced off me and clipped the end of the tone arm, scraping the stylus across a brand new pressing of PSB's 'The race for space'... The record didn't fair too badly but the stylus was ruined, not a good day... After some research I've found getting a genuine replacement is going to cost a fortune, my budgets under £100 and I know I cant get a modern stylus of equal quality for that money. I've read around so many sites/forums now I cant tell the wood for the tree's, I think this would do the trick but I wouldn't mind a little advice.

I can't help you on that particular option, but I will say that I have a VMS20mk2 (I think ?) that I ran a few years ago, and I really enjoyed how it sounded. My memory is a bit foggy on the topic, but I seem to recall that when I did the stylus research thing for it back then that this series of Ortofons could be tricky when it came to replacement stylus options. Before you pull the trigger make sure you know for sure it will fit. Hopefully the stylus gurus will chime in soon.
 
Stereoneedles still lists the D20EII as "in stock" for not quite US$ 95 - that would seem more attractive to me than the 66 bucks for the Jico, which would be just an entry-level bonded elliptical...

Iirc, the D30II has the same hourglass-shaped condig post as the (old) D20EII. Newer D20EII exemplars will have the more universally compatible X-shaped coding post, though...

D20EII will fit and sound quality is really close call between the two, but it doesn't track as well as the fineline of course.
