Oscilloscope Probes

Hi, I came across a BK Precision 1405 Oscilloscope at a yard sale. It seems in nice shape and powers on ok but it is missing the probe. After a little digging I found that the probe that it should have is a Dynascan PR-21.

How specific are Oscilloscope probes? Is there something readily available that I can buy or do I need to wait until the auction site offers this specific one up?

I'm not familiar with the 1405 specifically, but in general 1x probes are pretty interchangeable. Once you get into more complicated things (10x, differential, etc.) there are compensation networks and other things that make mixing models not a great idea.

It looks like the 1405 uses banana plugs for the probe so at the very least you'll need an adapter to BNC if you want to use generic probes.
 
They are reasonably generic as basic probes go. Have decent results with the TPI brand. If you get the ones with compensation adjustment you dial it in for the most square wave you can.

Looks like its a 5MHz scope so typically you match the probe rating to that. But, not sure there would be a 5MHz probe today so get what is closest, but not less than.

What a cute scope! I couldn't walk past one either if I saw it at a yard sale. It'll be perfect for basic audio related duties.
