Overall quality of my system?

Hello,
In my other post I asked a specific question about my recently acquired Kenwood system (KRF-V5030D, DP-R4090, KE-7090). Here I would like some more general information, since detailed info is sparse online. First of all, is this a matched set, or some kind of Frankenstein?
Second, is it any good? I like how it sounds, but I'm no audiophile, I grew up with a decent Sony rack and I liked that, and this sounds comparable to me... Though I still have to add decent speakers.
Third... It's supposed to be a 80+80W on 8 ohm when outputting on two channels (stereo). A colleague of mine, who is supposedly an audiophile, told me that since it's a surround system, if I only listen to stereo, it's 30+30w maximum, regardless of what the manual says. Is he right? It doesn't sound like 30+30 to me...

Thank you,
Cristian

you might want to find a different audiophile. he probably is running some SET flea amp.

i'm working on a similar 'vintage' marantz av receiver (sr-18). this beast puts out 140 w/c for each of the channel. Each channel is identical and there is no power regulation switching from 2 channel to surround. I have not looked at your kenwood but I'd think your amp is similar. My only reference is hifi engine. i have no reason to doubt the specs listed there.

here is a bit from the user manual on hifi engine. looks like 80w/c during SURROUND operation. don't fear googling for answers.

Thank you... I suspected as much, but he seemed so sure that I got some doubts. Maybe his judgment was somewhat influenced by the fact that I bought this Kenwood instead of the system he was trying to sell me...

Manual says 4ohms... why does your friend think it’s only 30?
I was wrong, I thought it was 80w on 8 ohm. So if it's 80 on 4 ohm, it probably really is a bit less on 6 or 8 ohm. Not that I care, if it sounds good to me.
As to why he criticizes it... It's probably because I didn't follow his advise of buying his own system...
