I have a nice load of stuff waiting to be shipped to me from my sister's house in Illinois.
The last two times I shipped stuff, i had a visa which allowed for household shipments and therefore wasn't raped with customs fees.

Does anyone have any experience with shipping larger items to a foreign country?
Any advice?

US mail, parcel post on a slow boat. I have packed some things for a friend of mine that were headed for Japan. I believe that the custom fees are based on the amount of insurance but that is a guess.
 
a lot depends on how they are shipped.

USPS - she fills out the customs declaration form(get this at the post office), lists the items as gifts or low dollar figure.

UPS/FEDEX - if the goods are more than $2500, she will need a "Shippers Export Declaration" form that tells what the stuff is and how much its worth. Because you are not buying, she will not need the commercial invoice.
 
Yes, parcel post by tuna boat is how I have her send me "care packages" of Jello, Kool-Aid and tapioca, but there is a weight limit of 45 pounds.
What do i do with a Mac 2300 at 150 lbs packed?

I think UPS and Fedex have weight limits also. I'll have to give them another look.

UPS wants almost a grand to ship the Mac alone.
I"ll have to look into moving companies. The duty fees can't be THAT bad.
