P2250 upgrade ideas and preamp recommendations?

I upgraded from my AX-596 to a P2250 this weekend (using an HTR-5960 as a pre on both). So far, the P2250 is a big upgrade. Testing on my Polk Monitor 12 will continue tonight =)

So.

- Any mods I should know about? I dd a cursory search and google, but nothing jumped out at me besides the typical 40-yr-old (Jeezus...) capacitor refresh.

- I want a solid pre with a remote, but don't know of an affordable/thrifty option that would beat using the 5960. I used it with my AX-596 because it sounded soooooo much better tgan the 596's integrated pre. It just seems a waste of electricity and space to use the 5960.

I got the P2250 because I'm upgrading some Polk SDA-1c, and needed some extra oomph. It would be my dream amp from when I was 14, if it had the red meter of the home version.

I wonder if I could mount something in front of the dan vent for bouncy lights ...

the only thing i did to my 2250 was to add 5 way binding posts and xlr to rca cables. i still haven't added feet but i need to.

this is a beast. i'd check bias and dc offset and enjoy it.

I have re capped and fixed my p2250 but never used the XLR inputs cause I don’t have a mixer. Excuse my ignorance, but what sort of an arrangement did you make for the “xlr to rca cables” ?

And I definitely agree this thing is a beast!
 
here are my 'proof of concept' cables.

Typically you'd use the style on the right to connect a signal input, such as the signal input to the amp in this case. The style on the left is typically for connecting to a signal output, such as the signal coming out of a preamp or mixer or some other source. Technically, from a signal point...

I've since cut off an end of a RCA cable and soldered in an XLR connector. works great and not an 'accident waiting to happen'.
