I just got off of a brand new American Airlines jet that has perhaps the worst PA system I’ve ever heard. Well, almost worst. The flight attendants messages were almost unintelligible. no low voice response at all ; very tinny. What is it with these companies that will not invest in properly sounding audio equipment? Certainly the technology is there and certainly there are plenty of very good pa systems out there.
But a brand new multimillion dollar plane (Canadaair regional 900) with a Mickey Mouse audio system? Really?

Weight, mostly. Every pound for a proper audio system in a plane, is one less passenger or cargo pound that can be carried.

It is ridiculous, though, the lengths some have gone. It really is like the Charlie Brown "adult talk" thing in some cases, on some planes. "mwak mwak mwak"...

At some point, I predict someone will use that as an excuse to sue an airline or aircraft manufacturer, as they will claim they wound up being harmed because they couldn't hear the safety messages properly. At that point, things will probably change astonishingly fast.
