i picked this up recently with the help of a friend. it's a sweet little 7189 amp with 7199 driver/phase inverters. i am going to start work on it tonight, though most of the work has been done (looks like someone went over it well, new diodes, new caps, etc.).

i am fortunate to be in touch with paul burgess of new zealand, who has the build book for this amp. he emailed me the necessary pages, and now i can really sort anything that comes up with its help. i have already uploaded the schematic from it to the database, and will do so with the rest when i get a chance. thanks, paul!

That should clean up fine. Good luck with the restoration and hopefully the tubes have good life remaining.

thanks, tinkerbelle. the 12ax7s (and the 7025 spot) are all groove tubes. old stock 6u8s, and i gave a quad of 6u8a’s to compare. 7189s are russian and haven’t got a lot of use on them. so i am happy :)

I've never heard one but it should sound really nice. Those OTs are fairly substantial.

Here's the Sams in pdf, which can be enlarged to show detail. You probably don't need it, since you have the assembly manual but maybe it will be useful for someone. I didn't realize these were sold as kits.

thanks, @FlaCharlie! the sams. chromatic is in the ak database, but not the whole folder. i am bringing it up on a variance tonight, so should know by morning what’s up.

I believe I've seen ads for Paco equipment in old Popular Electronics issues, but thats as much as I know about them.

Apparently they built equipment. PACO was a division of Precision Apparatus Co., of Glendale, Long Island. Other sources say they were quite good with their test equipment, and to be considered when available.
