A while back I bought a pair of L88 Plus speakers. The woofer cones had been painted white. I assumed someone wanted to brighten up some dingy yellowed cones. The tweeters had been painted too, gray down to the orange ring around the cone. Who ever did it had done an extremely clean job.
A little while later I bought a pair of Heathkit AS-38 speakers with drivers manufactured by JBL. The Heathkit speakers woofers had been painted green. This is how they left the factory. Well documented.
Color aside, the paint jobs between the L88s and the Heathkits look like they were done the same way. I'm wondering if the white paint on the L88 Plus woofers could have been done in the factory?
