Pairing SA 9800 and SG 9800 with different volatges

Merry Xmas everyone :)

I recieved my SG 9800 in yesterday and it is the 110 V version without the volatge adjuster.

My Sa 9800 has the adjuster and it's set on 240 as I'm in Aus.

Do I need a voltage converter If I am plugging the SG 9800 into the back of the SA 9800?

I'm guessing I do...

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The outlets on the back are what it's plugged into, 240V. DO NOT run the SG out of those outlets without a stepdown transformer to plug the SG into. Shouldn't need a very big one, low current draw from an equalizer.

Thanks, much appreciated.

I Will get myself one and maybe modify it to sit inside the equalizer..........
Careful with that idea. Placement of a step down xfmr inside the EQ could be critical, you could induce hum into one or both channels of the audio.

Picked up a Stepdown Transformer from Jaycar for $45... Converts to 110-115 VAC..

I'm pretty sure that our mains supply has a bigger fluctuation than 5V so I can't see any issues such as browning being an issue..

Thanks for your help Ed in Tx,

MERRY CHRISTMAS

Just tried plugging it into the amp and it wouldn't power up..... will power up ok in the PowerPoint though...

Do the accessory outlets only work with 120v in use....?

Your SA-9800 has two switched and two unswitched outlets on the back. (Mine does, but it's a US single voltage 120V model) Maybe you had it plugged into in a switched outlet and the amp was off?

Here's the problem, the outlet cables have been disconnected for some reason....

Anyone willing to post a pic of their's??

I want to get them working again as I have run out of powerpoints and have a TX 9800 to add as well one day...

At the very least I will run the active and neutral wires across, they will just need to be powered up and off independantly every time I use them....

Damn...

Why would someone do that? All I can think of, possibly in an attempt to correct for a perceived millivolt or so of voltage drop across those outlets and wire wrapped connections, for a more direct connection? Weird.

Doesn't look like too much modification has been done. My '9800 is not in an easy place to pull it out and take pictures. Maybe someone has one to post a picture for reference, and you can get it straightened out.

So I learned they call outlets there in Australia "Power points"!

I decided today would be a good day to take the ol' SA-9800 out and blow the dust out, so I took a few pics while I was at it. Maybe these will help.

I don't know why they would bother unless there was some fault that required this to be done...something more serious??
You would have to doubt that though. I can't see any danger in re-connecting that terminal...

Hopefully someone with a SA 9800, with the voltage adjuster, can post a pic showing which colours go on which terminals...

Yes down under we call them powerpoints as well as outlets. :)

Cheers.

Thanks heaps Ed in Tex, its much appreciated.

Is your amp one with the voltage converter also??

So the active cable is joined to the same terminal as the yellow cable from what I can see yes?

And on the right terminal the active is coming from the voltage converter? Fuse terminal?

Cheers.

The AC power, outlets and power switch are all before the voltage selector. So that should be pretty much the same. Colors may be different. The AC comes in to the bottom outlets by the two black wires, the power switch connects across the gap between the upper two switched and lower unswitched outlets. See the schematic I attached.

Where abouts are you in Aus, if you are in Sydney I am happy to have a look at this and rewire for you if you aren't confident with doing this yourself.

Cheers

Thanks Ed in Tex for the schematic, I will have a crack at it at some stage this week before the new entertainment unit arrives to reduce the number of outlets required. You have been very helpfull and your time is much appreciated :)

Thanks for the offer skippy124 that's very generous of you to offer your time like that but I am in Melbourne. Do you know of anyone in Melbourne with a great reputation with servicing vintage Pioneer components??
I would like to take my amp somewhere in the near future to ensure all outputs are correct etc and see if there's anyway of getting the VU metere's back to being bright...

Are the "powerpoints" 110V type outlets. They may have disconnected them to prevent accidentally plugging 110v components into them, as they would have 240V (they will have whatever the line voltage is connected to) My guess is that to do it right, would have to change the outlets to whatever is standard for 240 where you live. Good luck with it.

Update:

I have since wired up the terminals and am running the equalizer through the amp..

I spliced the white and brown cables and soldered them onto the terminals with solder already there... the white went to the terminal with the white cable bridging the switching/non switching terminal and the brown across to the other terminal (switching)... I now have a spare switching slot for a TX 9800 tuner...

I tried to get a 20/40 transformer from alltronics (for the equaliser) and they couldn't help me which was dissapointing..... time to find one online...

Has anyone done this before?? If so where did you get the transformer from ???

Thanks for your help guys its muh appreciated.
