Panasonic Lineaer TT- flea market find, decent?

Today while hunting/gathering vinyl, I saw a Panasonic Linear turntable set up and running at one stall. I *think* it said SL-05. I know it is a sub brand of Technics.

Worth buying to step into the world of Linear TT's? It will probably go dirt cheap. While I wait for the 10+ week turn around on my Denon DL-103M cart repair/upgrade, I am using a Technics SL-BD22, plastic table. Just filled it with clay this afternoon. If the Panasonic is not better sonically, I don't need another plastic TT.

Anyone have experience with the Panasonic Linear trackers? :scratch2:

Anyone thought on whether it will sound better than the SL-BD22? New AT 3482P cartridge and clayed plinth. Say the Panasonic has same mod and new cart.
 
Cheaper version of a Technics. The Direct Drive versions are OK but slightly cheaper build. If inexpensive, worth a go! :tresbon:
 
Since the cover is captive on these, it's recommended to put a medium sized hardback book on it when playing to squelch resonance and feedback. It does make a positive difference.
 
I've got a Technics SL-BD22 (no mods) and an SL-Q5 linear tracker too. The Q5 flys under the radar to a point (it isn't listed at http://www.vintagetechnics.co.uk/turntables.htm) but is a quartz-lock direct drive model, on the 12" by 12" chassis and without the track programming. Matsushita might have sold it under the Panasonic name too, depending on the territory.

Generally speaking, Matsushita (the parent company of the Technics, Nationa and Panasonic brands, until 2008 when they renamed the parent company Panasonic) specialized in direct drive turntable models, and the belt drive models were generally at the bottom of the line. If the Panasonic linear tracker is a direct drive, there's a good chance it would outperform the SL-BD22.

Thanks. the Technics is OK, but if you turn it up, definite rumble. The clay helped a bit.
