I recently added a RD 3600 Panasonic TT to my collection. Really nice looker and it seems to play well. I am curious though about what cartridge/stylus it might benefit from.

This is one I am giving to my granddaughter (for Christmas) for her starter TT into our world. Without spending an arm and a leg, any suggestions?

On the unit is a tag-Diamond EPS-35-STED. I assume this is their recommendation, but not so sure its still what is on the arm.

In doing some digging it appears its possibly the same TT as the Technics RD 3600 if that helps.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

A little search I did for that stylus number brings up images that seal it as a Panasonic branded Audio-Technica cartridge. Lower end A-T but serviceable. According to everything that I read, you can install a stylus for a ATN12XE as an upgrade. Does what is still on the turntable look like this?:

If it does, a 12XE stylus would be a low cost upgrade. :)

Somewhat. I thought the symbol on the front of the stylus looked like an A-T, but the little bugger seems almost stuck, can't get it to pull out very easy, and I am leery of trying to force it too much.

Thanks for that super fast response. I spent time yesterday trying to find something on it from a couple of the needle sales places on the internet. Think I'll slip down and see if it will pull out.

Ok, got it out and pulled the cartridge out. its an AT11E cartridge but it looks like turntableneedles nor LP gear have this one. I can get a needle replacement, but since its for my gd I want to put a new cartridge in for her.

Looks like an AT95E will work though......

thanks

Here is a cheap but excellent replacement stylus.

I have both the above stylus and an AT95E, and I think that replacement stylus on the AT11E sounds a fair amount better than the AT95E. There's also no real need to replace the cartridge as they don't usually go bad, unless they drop a channel, which is fairly rare. I also wouldn't spend too much on a cartridge/stylus for someone brand new to vinyl as their chances of having a mishap with the stylus are usually higher than someone with more experience. You can always upgrade down the road if she is still interested.
