Hello!

I'm a new member here but have frequently found the information and discussions very interesting.

I've been scouring the local Kijiji ads and came across a Panta RPH 360 tt for $150 Cdn and a Micro Seiki DD-24 tt for $350 Cdn. I have found very little information about either of these but would appreciate any comments about quality, pricing etc. that anybody has.

Thanks!
Stephen

If that Panta is a BSR offering from the 1980's like I think it is, you might find it attractive from a distance. But the closer you get, the cheaper it looks.

As of yet I haven't seen it, but it has a Grado MT+ cartridge. How will I be able to tell if its BSR ?

Panta RPH 340 is a very good turntable. It is a direct drive with 2 belts to move the tonearm. One to move the arm up and down and one for the automatic functions. They look nothing like a BSR or any other turntable for that matter. If it is working well go for the Panta. The person who designed it was the chief engineer at Telefunken.

Thank you very much! He's asking $150, is that a fair price?

Unlikely there is market price on something so rare. Is it a DD? The Panta 340 has manual on vinyl engine. Is this similar?

If something breaks, fixing it will be tricky as there will be limited technical resources. The 340 has specs that are not quite as good as Technics DD tables. Might be fun purchase for a turntable collector and tinkerer.

Here's what the ad says:
Direct drive, 3 motor turntable with a carbon fibre straight arm and anti-resonance resin strengthened with fiberglass cabinet. Two additional motors for vertical and lateral tonearm motion. Includes original manual. In perfect working condition and in beautiful condition. Designed by Edgardo Magnaghi. Made in Italy (original owner).
I am quite tempted........

Maybe I was wrong about the brand. I just remember that the audio retailer I worked for had multiple stores some of which were shipped what I thought were Pantera turntables.

The particular store location I was at was not one of the stocking stores but I seem to remember a co-worker saying they came from BSR. It might also have been the BSR distributor, not BSR themselves.

It so happened that I was loosely in the market for a new turntable and did check one out when visiting a store that had them on display.

My remark about looking good from a distance was my first thought but closer inspection and manipulating the arm and controls did not inspire in me a sense of quality.
