Paradigm 3se?

Can any one comment on these speakers? I picked up from someone off of Craigslist for $50, which I'm hoping was a decent price for them. They sound very smooth and balanced.

I feel like my DCM Time Frame TF-500s highs and mids are a bit smoother but lack the bass of the Paradigms.

We had the 9se MkIII for a while. Great rock speakers but not harsh even for quieter, calmer stuff. I'd imagine these might sound similar-ish but haven't heard them to say for sure.

I have the 5se's and just sold a set of 9se Mk.3's. The 5's I liked so much I decided to hunt down a set of 9 or 11's but found 9's first. Though the 9's had plenty more bass, I found the 5's to ultimately be more musical. I can throw a pair of subs with the 5's and come out ahead soundwise compared to the 9's. I must admit, I did have a little remorse after selling the 9's, but the recent acquisition of a pair of ADS 1290/2's quickly cured that. I like my small "se" series Pardigms and think the dome tweeter is especailly sweet. I'm sure you have the same one. For the money you have in 'em I'm betting you did just fine.

They were my very first speaker purchase with money from a summer job, served me very well till I traded them in for 7se's. The bass was a bit tubby but a popular mod for them was to insert a foam (mattress pad foam) plug into the rear port. Even 100 bucks is a fair price for them. The do have a Vifa tweeter the same as the rest of the SE series.

Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely try to experiment with plugging up the rear port. I noticed that the bass was plentiful but was a bit loose/tubby as you described.

The CL ad stated they were 7se's for $50 so I got on that right away. He later realized they were 3se and told me but I thought it was a fair price for them anyway. I saw an ad for a pair of 5se's for $125 but they weren't in the greatest condition.

Glad I didn't get ripped off though. Waiting on my speaker stands now.

As long as you don't cram the foam in so they can't breath. Just want the foam to fit snug so they don't blow out. Some manufacturers actually supply foam plugs for their ported speakers to help tame any bass bloat due to placement and/or room acoustics.

Walmart...matress pad foam or similar and at least 1 - 2 inches thick. Just google foam speaker port plugs

Actually an upolestry shop may have some remnants of foam laying around.

Got my cheap speaker stands today and set the Paradigms up on them. They sound really good but I do miss my DCM Time Frames. Just needed something smaller for such a small room.

I'm impressed by their imaging and smoothness. Nothing sounds harsh coming out of these.

Those stands are not cheap by the way:no: I own a pair of 7es MK2's and they really sound nice placed on stands, Enjoy:music:
