Can't give a valid answer, but ya don't get much quality today for $170...and one might be able to haggle another $20 lower.

Paradigm puts out a decent sound.

Q

See the SE MkII going for under $100 for the 3 to maybe 135 for the 7. Haven't seen the 9 sell. I saw the 170 as nearly 2x what they should sell for but the weather is cooling and prices should be rising.

There were some 9 towers on CL for cheap here a few months back. I was going to stop and hear them until I found out that they weighed in at 120 lbs. each. They sold a few days later.

There are also some Polk Monitor 5 on CL now for $120, which also seems high to me for the condition of them. I bought a pair of the 5 Jr Series 2 a few years back for $75 in near mint condition.

You are not talking about 9 SE Mk II at 120 per they are only 90 pounds the pair. Seems speakers are a good bit higher asking prices than in SE PA.

Upon further review, they were the 11se mkII. They must be 120# for the pair. I misunderstood the spec sheet. I've found some good deals on speakers around here, like the EPI 180 for $50 a few months ago. I recapped, installed binding posts and recovered the grilles. Nice sounding speakers for the garage in the summer and basement in the winter.
I also found a nice pair of Dynaco A35 even cheaper. I refinished those and traded them for a pair of speakers that I sold.
The local CL has also been the source for a nice pair of Boston A150 and Paradigm Titans for little money. The Bostons are in my living room after I did the grilles and replicated the bases in solid oak to match the cabinets, and the Paradigms are in the garage. They needed nothing, not even foams yet.

Own a pair of the Paradigm 5se ( don't think they are a mk anything) -frankly got 'em cheap and after listening to them for a couple of evenings decided to keep 'em. Exceptionally pleasant speaker to listen thru - on a par with Dynaco A-25's to my ears -but substantially better highs. Still - by the standards of today's speakers relatively rolled off on the top - which on some material ain't a bad thing. Worth ? $150 a pair doesn't seem unreasonable to me if they work and the cabs/grills are in exceptional condition ?
