Paradigm Atom/Titan pairs, worth the work?

Waiting for Vintage Gear from this century
I picked up a surround set of Atom/Titan/CC150/PS1000 paradigms and was wondering if these are worth refoaming.

All 6 woofers (mids) need foam. Easy enough to find ones that should fit from Main Electronics.

These speakers appear to be V1.1, the V1 with the Paradigm tweeter so I give them a .1 version since the originals appear to have come with Vifa tweeters. Correct me if I'm wrong. Woofers are dated 96, very short life on that foam.

Anyway, used as satellites with a sub or as a surround system is refoaming easy enough to make this project worthwhile? I can refoam, curious if these need shimming or not.

Yep, both the Atoms and Titans are well respected small speakers that many find perfectly acceptable for use as mains in smaller rooms or more intimate applications.

Actually, I'm not an HT guy, but it would seem to be a waste of a fine speaker to use as surrounds...:dunno:

I did a pair of Atom V1s last year. I got the surrounds from Rick Cobb, he's a member here. Rick's kits come with a 30HZ tone CD for aligning the voice coil, no need to shim.
 
They're great little speakers. I have some Titans wall mounted in my 26 x26 garage and they punch way above their weight. Paired up with sub they're hard to beat.

I'll check the surround sizes one more time and get em from Main and get these up and running.

If all else fails (the surround system use for them), I guess I have a pair for the garage and a pair for the computer.
 
I have some Titans with Vifa tweets. Were cake to refoam and I use them in a 2ch TV setup. They're great!
 
I've had a pair of Titan MKI and MKII and 1 pair of atoms. All nice little speakers and worth a $20 refoam.
 
I remember reading reviews of Atoms and Titans when they were introduced. They're considered excellent even as mains. Add a small sub for a 2.1 system and you'll be amazed.

The PS-1000 is not a small sub, it is the largest one I have. But I'll start small and just replace the little speakers I have now with these and use the sub that is part of the TV system.

Seems these can benefit from some structural support of the cabinets. Maybe when I get them refoamed and like em, I can make the box a bit more inert. One thread found on google used a couple cross braces in the cabinet and then coated the insides with sand filled plasti-dip after coating the woofer basket with plain plasti-dip. Good think the speaker can be closed up by putting the back on it.
 
I bought my Titans new in January of '92. Used them to good effect til they went into the closet for some years, and came out with disintegrated foam. This was my first and only refoam job, and it was stupid easy, no shims necessary. They live in our radiation treatment room these days and sound great. Really, it's a no-brainer for a fine sounding set of lil' speakers.

I've had both. Both are great. Titans can stand on their own but Atoms really could use a small sub to round out the sound. I had a non powered 8" sub running through a pair of Atoms that sounded really good.
 
I got the cones and baskets clean for the refoam tonight. Not too hard but different as the glue is non-hardening. Peels off with the thumb.

I'm glad to read that the V1 is one of the good ones, too, seems Paradigm is up to V7 or some such thing. So a set of Atoms and Titans with a matching center will be a nice enough upgrade to the TV system. Getting the surrounds on order and the waiting begins as the speakers are already cleaned, too.

Need to test the sub next.
 
Foam from Main Electronics came in Saturday, system put in use on Sunday. Having the baskets and cones clean ready for the foam was a great time saver when doing 6 speakers.

System sounds nice. Better than the one before and I have two nice sounding pairs of small speakers added to the collection.
