Paradigm Eclipse/BP tweeter. Who made it? Need to know fast if possible.

Hi all,

I have the chance to pick up a pair of Paradigm Eclipse/BP with one non-working tweeter. The price is pretty good and they aren't too far away.

Anybody know who made this tweeter and perhaps even the model?

I have contacted Paradigm but I don't expect to hear from them in time.

My elderly Titans also use Vifas, FWIW, and I think my even older Export Monitors did as well. Chances are they should be at least reasonably compatible with your Eclipses.
 
From what I am reading Paradigm used a lot of Vifa tweeters for older models. I think I might take a chance on these. I've read that Paradigm at one time had replacement tweeters for $100. I'm not sure I would rather try out something else with similar T/S parameters and perhaps replace one or both tweeters on each speaker. I might even have some already. I know that I'd be venturing into tricky territory trying to end up with something that sounded right with the crossovers in there. Might just be a learning experience.
 
Paradigm wanted something around $100 for a replacement tweeter for one of mine. I found genuine Vifa replacement diaphragm/vc assemblies at Madisound for $16 each a few years back.
 
It looks like the Vifa aluminum dome tweeter D25AG05-06 or D25AG35-06 with a custom face plate that was very commonly used by PSB.
Edit: This is a Paradigm speaker but both them and PSB used this tweeter, so did Vandersteen, Thiel and many others.
Madisound has fabric dome replacements that they say will fit but are not quite right for them:

There is a pair of D25AG on that auction site now. Might just pick them up just in case...

The Paradigms are a bipolar speaker. It would probably work alright to replace a diaphragm on one side of each speaker with the textile dome. I could cut the diffuser off of the faceplate if it seemed rolled off. Probably wouldn't make a big difference to my ears, especially with one set of aluminum domes in there to fill in still.
 
I would put the correct working domes on the front, then not worry having fabric domes on the rear.

I would pick those up if you are sure they're good and the price is decent.
 
ebay, $150, 3 day money back return. Grill cloth messed up but I can deal with that. They are the only Eclipse BP listed. Easy hour and a half from my house.

PS - I used to work with robots too though not at the level of expertise you did. I kind of miss it.
 
I'm not really too familiar with that particular speaker so I can't comment on the price, sounds
a bit high given they have tweeter issues but it all depends on how badly you want them.
Also consider that if they have tweeter issues they were probably driven hard so you should
check over all the woofers very carefully.

What sort of work did you do in robotics?
 
Still thinking about those speakers. I've heard some praise them highly. I have a room that needs speakers that throw sound around like a bipole will.

Robots...mostly liquid handling for Genomics, Proteomics, and drug discovery. Nanoliter dispensing. Some pick and place for sample plate handling. I was an applications scientist with a fair bit of fixing busted stuff thrown into the mix (compared to the rest of the applications scientists at least). It was way too much travel. Software dev nowadays.

the bi-polar eclipse was the next step in evolution of the Eclipse Monitor from the Monitor line of the late 80's (compact, control, export, esprit, eclipse and studio) very well built with real wood veneer on the inside of the cabinet walls and out, better build quality than most of today's Paradigms. Not sure of price but they should have retailed near 1200 or so a pair, maybe more. I feel 150 on eBay is a good price. Should be able to find a Vifa replacement easy enough.
