Paradigm Monitor 7

Hello!

Just about to pull the trigger on a pair of Paradigm Monitor 7 for 300$. In good conditions. Is that a good price?

I'll match them with a Sansui 9090. Would that be a good match? Mainly for rock and jazz.

Thanks!

Have not heard them myself - but a quick average of sold listings on TheBay
comes out to around $387.50 (seemed to be several versions of the 7).
So I suppose it would be a fair price.

What do they go for new? or are they available still?

Oh.. and welcome to AK!

About $760/pair (MSRP) ...For earlier version; say 2007-08 model.

Well, I don't know that I'd pay that much for one of the early versions. If they have foam surrounds, even if they are in seemingly perfect condition, they could go at any time. Not trying to be a negative Nancy, but I've seen surrounds go from visually perfect to dead in a couple hours of play time, esp if they've been stored in a garage or a shed.

Just sold a pair of Monitor 7 v.4's for $200, but I'd say $300 is the average they'd go for...great speakers, tons of detail.

Thanks for your input!

Well, the latest version goes around 900$ : http://fillion.ca/fr/catalog/product/111198-Paradigm-Monitor-7-Series-7-B

The speakers are a couple of years old, so I guess they might be revision 5 or 6. Waiting for the answer from the guy that sell them (forgot to ask him when I had the chance). I'm going to hear them tomorrow, hoping his description fits the reality.

ok, thanks! Replacing the surrounds would cost how much?

No foam surrounds here.

So this means that they have rubber surrounds? And that there's no need to replace the surrounds? Sorry if that's a dumb question, quite new to this whole audio hobby. :)

We should all chip in and work on a used speaker price sheet. I will make a thread with some names and get started all prices should have a low to high range.

Thanks! Do you think they sound good for jazz and rock? Or do they shine with other types of music?

OK, they were bought in 2004. Older than I thought. That would be a v3 if I searched correctly on internet.
Still a good deal?

Still, the Cdn MSRP is $960/pair.

Yes, find out which version they are exactly. ...My best guess: Version 6

Don't worry, the surrounds are good!

I provided a link just above; they mentioned the Foam/Rubber 'Elastomer' surrounds (composition) ...Just read everything about them; including the die-cast aluminum baskets.
And it has nothing to be worry about in this thread! ...Paradigm surrounds from their excellent speakers are made to last!

They particularly excel at jazz and rock music reproduction. And they are magnificent with Classical, New Age, Electronica, Folk, ... with everything music genres and style! :tresbon:

Sure! I posted before I saw your answer :)

Apparently he bought it in 2004. So from some search, my guess is v3 (which was introduced in May 2002).

Looking at your image and the image here (the actual ad): http://montreal.kijiji.ca/c-ViewAdLargeImage?AdId=528881978&Keyword=paradigm monitor 7&ImageIndex=7

I think it might be v2. Notice the color of the last woofer.

Read that somewhere : "The easiest way to identify a V3 vs. a V2 or V1 is in any Monitor speaker 7 and up, look at the lower woofer. Its totally black as opposed to the older V2/V1s which have match transparent white woofers. "
