Paradigm Monitor 9 v.2

Hello all I Just joined. I’m looking forward to being part of this community

I have an opportunity to buy a pair of Paradigm Monitor 9 v.2. Each has a dent in the dust cap in one of the two woofers. Cabinets look good and grilles do too. Does anyone here think $200 is a good price?

if I buy them, I wonder about recapping them. I am plenty capable and skilled at board level repair. I’d just need some guidance on where to get the proper caps.

Welcome to the forum. There's a pair on my local facebook Marketplace for $160 and I wouldn't think that they would need caps replaced yet. Seems everyone is obsessed on AK with replacing any capacitor over 5 years old. You can get them from Parts Express.

Yeah, welcome to here, PAFASA. If they sound good that seems like a reasonable price, if you can't find something similar for less. Para's a good brand.

thanks for the input and the welcome. I think I’ll make a lower offer and see what happens. I’m glad to hear another opinion on the caps. I can always do it some time down the road. Any concerns with the child damage on the dust caps?

Thanks for the welcome. I’ve been a paradigm fan for quite a while. Just now am I actually buying some. I think an unhealthy addiction is starting. Lol

It would be nice to be able to hear them. Ask if they can have them hooked up so that you can listen to them. Dented dust caps normally are not an issue, but that's a reason just to double check the speakers for rattles or buzzing.

I have a pair of oak finished Paradigm Monitor 9 V.1 that I bought new in 1999 for $750. I recapped them a couple years ago and the difference was audible. I expected better caps in these speakers and was disappointed to find the original caps were electrolytic. I used poly caps from Parts Express and I am glad I recapped them.

Since the rest of your HT system is Paradigm, the Monitor 9 would make good fronts. That is where I have my Monitor 9s. I also use a CC-350, Titans V.3, and a Yamaha sub to fill out my HT.

So I offered $150 and it was accepted. The owner had them connected to an onkyo tx-nr747 and we listened to some stereo audio at low and also high volume. Great response all around. They will take their place as front right and left in my home theater. The mini monitor v3 pair (cherry finish) will have find a new home. I’m very excited. Thanks for the feedback today. My next quest will be for a pair of matching subs. I have room behind my seating area for a second sub. Any thoughts or recommendations based on my current (and rapidly changing) setup? I found a PW1200 near me for $400. Would like to find a matching pair though.
