Guys, would anyone know what the differences are in Sound Quality (only)
between the Studio 20 V1 and the V3??

Is the V3 just a better sounding speaker?

I have heard that there is much better bass response on the V3, is this true??

I'm pretty much decided to pick up a pair of 20s but really need to know if I should go for the V3 or not.

if bass really is better on the V3, that would be important. If the difference is mainly looks, then I dont care.

thanks for any help you can provide.

I've owned both the v2 and the v3. The v3 went deeper but was not as tight as the v2. The v2 had really nice looking "rosenut" sides.

The v3 has a much smoother sounding tweeter, IMO.

I had both V1 and V3 and the V3 is a better speaker in every way that matters. Better sounstaging, imaging, more refined high end...far better midrange and better low end extension.

Relative to the subwoofer question it will depend on how much bass you need, I used them both with and without...only you can answer whether you would need one to satisfy your musical needs. If you listen to primarily acoustic music and light electric music and have mass loaded stands you may be very happy without a sub.

In the last issue of Stereopile May 2008, Robert Reina made a report on the new Studio 20 v4...some of his comments are:....midrange neutrality and superb detail resolution made it glorious match for well recorded vocals and piano tracks....in the lower midrange...neutrality, resolution of detail...sense of bloom in this region ...like a large floor stand speaker... the reproducction of high frequencies was fairly clean, uncolored, and detail...at the low end of the spectrum seemed capable of deep, forceful, bombastic bass...V4 has considerably improved the treble, is far more detailed, natural, and dynamic than v1...i was taken by the v4 sense of dynamic bloom and ease in the lower midrange, and the way it could rock out at high levels in a large room.

I wonder how much difference there is between the V3 and the newer V4?

Theres big price difference but i wonder how much sonic difference there is...anybody know?
