Paradigm Studio 60 V4 vs. NHT 2.5i...upgrade??

I have what I'm pretty sure is the midrange from the 2.9, and I've seen the tweeter. Both are very out-of-date designs massively outperformed by more modern offerings from the same manufacturer (Seas), while the Paradigms are full of very modern stuff. It's a bit like comparing a 1980's Porsche to a late-model Nissan sports coupe; the Nissan is made from off-the-shelf parts at a much lower price, but it'll roast a standard 911.

That is very well put. Makes me consider things a little differently. Thanks for that analogy.

It seems a naive and superficial assessment to me?
That sort of analogy kind of flies right in the face of the spirit of this site doesn't it?
Think of how many components on here would be suggested if measured by the barometer of that comparison it sort of dismisses outright the older classics.

No one can hear what you like or predict what you will prefer so I am not suggesting one is a better choice for you or not but that type of reasoning really is just crap in my opinion.

Lots of guys would agree who own old Porsches too!

Haven't lusted for a Nissan since they were Datsun, but would love a 911 of any vintage...only ever had a 914 myself - and even it was fun! Never longed for an NHT, either, but that is probably because I never heard a pair - now I have no urge to do so anyway, so no comment on their sound by me.

Paradigms don't tend to be speakers that call a great deal of attention to themselves at first listen, ime, but over time can spoil other brands for the owner due to their overall good-to-excellent presentation. While the same can be said for many other brands/models of loudspeakers, their combination of across-the-board sound quality, decent aesthetics and affordable (esp. used) pricing make them stand way out.

I think I'd rather consider one of the Paradigm Studio Monitor 100 iterations if I already owned the 2.5i and wanted to certainly ensure the step is upward.

Thanks for suggesting the Studio 100's. I'll keep my eye out for a pair of those.

I have owned the 2.5i for quite a while it is designed by Ken Kantor I find them superior over any Paradigm I have owned.I drive them with a B@K Reference 202, 225 watts into 8 ohms 75 amps of current.The design eliminates side wall bounce in my narrow room.The Bass response goes down pretty low.I believe they sold for around $1200 new,they sound better than any speaker I have owned around the price range,my next purchase will be 2.9's.
