Parasound New Classic 2125 v2 vs. New Classic 2250 v2

Hello, it's my first thread on this forum.

I noticed that some Audio Karma users own Parasound amps or have more experience with them, so I decided to create an account and ask about differences between New Classic 2125 v2 and New Classic 2250 v2.

I have Dali Oberon 7 speakers and I want to buy Schiit Saga+ and Schiit Modi Multibit as well.

I'm very interested if I can experience any difference between 2125 and 2250 with Dali Oberon 7 speakers (Sensitivity 88.5 dB, 6 ohms, Recommended Amplifier Power 30 - 180W).

I was sending emails to the Parasound sales and service departments, but unfortunately Parasound didn't answer since a week (maybe it was a silly idea to write to them).

I will be very grateful for any answer, I want to buy the amplifier in next week (around 31 July).

Thank you in advance for your opinions and suggestions.

Call them ....
They always answer the phone and are extremely helpful ...

that being said ...

2250 is the way to go ....
Twice the power ....
More clean power is always better ...without a doubt.....
Less chance of blowing your speakers with distorted volume.

I’d rather drive 50 watt speakers with a 500 watt amp than a 50 watt amp .

Whether u need it now or not .... someday u might ....

I have an A21 in bedroom system ..... usually use 1/20th of the power ... still nice to have the watts on tap ... more clean headroom ....
I assume the price diff is not an issue , or you wouldn’t be asking ...

Hello avionic :D And thank you Bk1 for your answer! :beerchug:

Honestly I can add some details about this purchase, because after all I see, that price could be a small issue, but maybe I will manage to sort things out.

I live in the UK, so I will need to use company that can send the amp to the UK to my address (because Audio Advisor and Safe And Sound are not sending Parasound amps outside of USA), and I will use Stackry or Vikingship probably.

For shipping 2125 to the UK I will pay $200 and around $150 for the UK VAT and shipping costs and for shipping 2250 I will pay $260 and around $240 UK VAT and shipping costs.

So overall 2125 will cost me $950 and 2250 will cost me $1500.

I was searching for used Parasound to buy in the UK, but there are no offers on eBay and similar websites, and new 2125 from the UK store cost $1420 and new 2250 from the UK store cost $2400 (so I guess it's much better to buy in the USA and ship by using companies mentioned above).

And I will have exactly $1900 after the payday, but when I will buy Parasound 2250, I will have not enough left for Schiit Vali 2 and Schiit Modi Multibit that I want to purchase as well (I will buy Schiit Saga+ at the end of the year, because they are only available to backorder now, so temporary I can use Vali 2 that I will be later using for my Beyerdynamic DT770 headphones).

I was wondering if I can take a loan to pay for everything what I want, but damn PayPal Credit declined my request. I will try to take a bank loan perhaps.

Of course, I can look for alternatives, but after scrolling dozen of forums, reviews and threads I really wish to grab a Parasound NewClassic amp, I think this is the amp that I want to hear. (I borrowed Cambridge Audio amp from my friend, but it sounded too bright and low frequencies were not sastifying).

And so I wondering, if its good to try to grab 2250, because shipping costs are similar, so when I import something from the USA, I want to make sure it's a great purchase for years.

I'm not sure what differences in sound I can expect between 2125 and 2250, I listen to a lot of electronic music (drum n bass, techno, trance, house, breaks), but also progressive and alternative rock and more chill stuff (ambient, downtempo, trip hop, reggae, dub, soul, funk etc.).

Sorry for going deep into the details, but I wanted to explain my situation.

Maybe I will try to buy a cheap DAC and preamp for now and buy this Schiit stuff later.

I will think about it, and if you can share your suggestions, I would really appreciate it :)

I looked on their website, Audio Advisor ships to international locations. You might wish to go to their website, scroll down to the bottom. Click on ‘shipping’ to get all the details.

How loud do you listen (dBs)?
The bigger amp, that will give an aditional 3 dBs, is a waste of money if you listen at moderate levels.

For 90% of the time I listen to music on low volumes (because of my gf honestly), I noticed that on my current Marantz PM6006 I cannot hear the details in music when I listen on low volumes, I need to add a lot of volume to reveal the details and make my Oberon 7 sound satisfying (but maybe it's the speakers fault).

I'm not sure if thanks to Parasound I will be able to reveal more details on low volumes.

Just when my gf is out, then I like to play them louder. I like to listen loud, but I rarely have occasion to do it.

So on low volumes, there will be a difference between 2125 and 2250 or not so much?

No
The 6006 is 45 watts, so there is more difference between that and the Parasound 125 than there is between 125w and 250w.

I picked up 2125 v2 for my Test system using Luxman C-02 Pre-Amp. It's a detailed and smooth sounding Amp. I have 2 Marantz 7T's one with Luxman M-117 and looking
for another Amp for the 2nd 7T. At my Local Parasound dealer I demo Parasound Halo A23+ and 2250 v.2...The Halo A23+ just has another Level of sound. In the end I ordered
PrimaLuna DiaLogue Premium Power Amplifier but I have no reservations with either Parasound.

Hello again.

Thank you guys for all your helpful comments.

After checking my budget, I decided to purchase 2125 v2 from Safe And Sound (Audio Advisor have them out of stock).

Maybe some day I will upgrade it to Halo, but for now (when I'm still paying loan for my gaming PC and 4K TV), I think it will be fine for my Dali Oberon 7.

I will use Stackry to ship the amp to the UK (Glasgow).

I'm honestly a bit stressed about changing the voltage to 230V, because I'm not sure how to use that AC Voltage Selector (visible here: https://parasound.com/product-image...PVmQrcUS7uwdxqKAWC5upgG0E0Jz0Mrf_k9v4lPLUkgMI )

I was calling Parasound to ask a few questions, but they told me that they can help me only when I'm buying their products from the authorized dealers, which means that I should buy 2125 v2 for £1,149 ($1,500) from the UK dealer, and then Parasound can help me with any issue.

Majority of our conversation (that last for 20 minutes) was the Parasound guy using his salesman pitch to convince me to buy Parasound Halo A23 for £2,000 ($2,600) from the UK dealer and reassuring me that it's the best option for my speakers.

I appreciate this advice, but this is way over my current budget and with my monthly loan payments, I guess it will take some time to gain more money for any future upgrade.

Now I really hope that shipment will go smoothly, that I will receive 2125 v2 in a perfect condition and there will be no issues with customs.

As soon it will arrive, I hope that I will manage to change the voltage to 230V (if you guys know how to do it, I will be very grateful for any help) and find the right USA to UK plug adapter (in the worst case I will buy USA to UK transformer).

I will be updating this thread with any updates, once again thanks for your replies! :)

I've never had a need to use one (buy all my kit for US, even British like Exposure and Sonneteer ;) ), but according to the owners manual you just slide the switch to appropriate setting.

It seems that I was overthinking it and it's just that easy :D Thank you!

I guess I will need to buy USA to UK plug adapter after switching the voltage?

I'm an complete noob honestly in terms of power supply, cables and stuff

Awesome! Thank you for helping me :)

Great to now that IEC C13 will work.

I thought that it's C13 at first (I have the same cable from my old amplifier) but then I start to read some articles and I confused myself, thinking that USA have some specific cables that I need to plug :)

Now I cannot wait for the shipment to test the new Parasound.

I don't know about all that. I mean if you want to spend your money to keep power in storage in case you ever need it there is nothing wrong with that but I'm guessing a lot of people buy amps based on their current gear. I bought the Parasound 2125 v2 to pair with B&W CM5's in a 10x14 room. I don't anticipate the room is going to change and I'll never put tower speakers in the room so 150 watts is way more than enough. Probably too much.

I was doing some reading the other day about low volume level listening and how it's a difficult caveat to overcome. To paraphrase one posters comment; "It has to do with how you actively listen to your speakers at low volumes. You need to retrain your ears. Turn your receiver down to just barely audible and allow your ears to become accustomed to listening for details. After you have acclimated bump the volume up just ever so slightly."

Basically that's what they said. I tried this several times and it worked for me. Of course if I'm listening at high volume and suddenly reduce the output x10 I'll be less than satisfied. But if you start out like this maybe late at night you may be surprised at what your speakers reveal.

Hi guys, I'm not sure if I should post it in this thread, but I'm seeking for help :(

Parasound 2125 v.2 just arrived today. I changed AC Voltage Selector to 230V (because i live in the UK). I connected my Dali Oberon speakers to Speaker Output A (+ to + and - to - for L and R) and I connected Schiit Vali 2 to Input by using RCA cables.

I checked everything carefully and I turn on the Schiit Vali 2 and Schiit Modi Multibit at first (that I was using with Cambridge Audio and Marantz amps before without any problems), then I turn on the Parasound 2125 v.2 and immediately I heard a loud blast of sound from my speakers, and then just hum and hiss.

I was shocked what happened, I was sure that I connected everything correctly. I tried it again with same effect, big boom from the speakers (I hope this didn't damage them) and then loud hissing sound, I play some music but music was playing only in right speaker and extremely quiet in the left speaker, and hissing / humming was louder than the music.

I'm afraid to try again, now I connected my Cambridge Audio amp and everything is playing great (I cannot hear any hiss at all, just clear playing music and silence when nothing is playing).

I'm wondering what is going wrong, maybe the cable is the fault? I'm using IEC amplifier power cord from my Marantz (I guess it's IEC C13 plug) because it's fitting well.

I call Parasound, but they advise me to call tomorrow between 9am to 1pm pacific time.

If you have any ideas what could cause the trouble, I would be very grateful for any help or opinions.

I wish so much to just enjoy the music with the Parasound 2125 v.2, but I don't understand what is going wrong and why there is a very loud hiss :(

I think that I will try to calm myself, go to sleep (because it's midnight in the UK) and I will try tomorrow, very carefully to not damage the speakers with the Parasound.

Holy ****. Well, first off I have no idea what's happening but it ain't good. I bought the same amp. When the UPS guy came 2 days ago I refused delivery because I was having 2nd thoughts. Hope your speakers are okay bud.

Thanks Okra, maybe your instinct tell you the right thing to do :) But if I can ask, are you have some particular reason to refuse? I'm just curious if your found something else perhaps that you would prefer to try with your system.

I wake up after almost sleepless night (feeling like on massive hangover right now) and I plug the Parasound 2125 v.2 to a different power socket, hiss was still pretty loud (without even plugging my source, just the speakers were connected).

I later discovered that after turning down Left and Right Level Knobs at the rear panel of the amp the hissing decreased, but it's still audible and some parts of music have a noticeable hiss.

I can listen to music now, but I have no idea how to eliminate that hiss, that's for sure is coming from the amp, not from the source.

I will be calling Parasound later and ask what is causing this problem, I'm afraid to return amp for service because I paid over £200 for the amp delivery to the UK, so I cannot afford more shipping costs to the US and back :(

P.S. Thanks for this method for the listening on low volumes, how to accustom your ears, I will definitely try it as soon I will sort everything with the amp.
