Parasound weak channel

Hi and sorry if I'm posting this in the wrong thread, I'm having a little trouble navigating AK.
I have a Parasound 275v2 amplifier running with a Parasound 2100 preamplifier. I purchased them both from trustworthy people who said both units had low hours. I've noticed that the left channel is quieter than the right channel. I have to turn the balance way up on the left side to get them to reach similar volumes. Questions: how would any of you folks go about trouble shooting this issue, from the easiest to the more complex method? Is there a way to use a multimeter to check the power going into each speaker? The speakers are new Wharfedale Lintons so it's not the speaker. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hey Bradbrews, I appreciate your response. I don't want to blow anything in the amp so I need to get some clarification. So obviously my preamp has a Main Out with an RCA cable that goes into the amp's corresponding inputs. Both sides are correctly connected to their white and red inputs. Are you saying to keep the RCA in the preamp correctly connected to the right (red) and white (left) but then connect the RCA to the opposite inputs of the amp (white RCA goes in red and red RCA goes in white)? Sorry if I'm making it more complicated than it is but I just wanted to avoid damaging anything. Thanks
 
That’s exactly right.
Think of the system as two separate mono amplifiers- even though that’s not 100% correct. What you are doing is determining which part is causing your issue. R or L in the preamp or R or L in the amp. You can’t hurt anything as long as you change the connections with power OFF.

Ok, so I just reversed the RCA inputs into the amp, so the left cable is in the right and the right is in the left. And it clearly switched sides, the left side is now louder. Does that mean it's most likely a preamp issue?
 
So now you know that both channels of the amp work, but one channel of the pre amp is low.
Focus on first cleaning ALL the switches and potentiometers in the signal chain of the pre amp.
Volume, balance, tape monitors, tone bypass etc. clean them all and see if you fix it.

I have Deoxit D5 and F5. Which do you recommend?
