Particulates in Spin Clean fluid.

Had anyone had experience with particulates appearing in their Spin Clean solution?

I had an older bottle that I was going to use after not using the Spin Clean for some time and when I examined it I saw what looked like small pieces of black mold floating in the solution. I threw that bottle away and ordered a fresh bottle of solution. Within a couple of months I started to see what looked like small bits of toilet paper in the solution.

Has anyone had a similar experience? It makes me hesitant to use the Spin Clean at all. The solution is stored in normal conditions as far as temperature and humidity go.

I've been using a Spin Clean for well over a decade but stopped buying their fluid several years ago. Not because of contamination but price.

There are only three components to what I put into the tank now. Distilled water, a pinch of alum powder and 8 drops of Photo-Flo over the brushes. The most expensive ingredient by volume in the solution is distilled water.

Since Spin Clean the company would not disclose what's in their fluid, other than state alcohol is not present, I concluded that there cannot be much to it. Once I understood what a flocculant was, learning alum powder is such a substance, and repeately reading about Kodak Photo-Flo's use a surfactant, It became clear to me what Spin Clean was marketing.

I clean a lot of used records. LP's mostly but 7" singles and 78's as well. When a 16oz bottle of Spin Clean fluid hit $40 locally, was when I quit buying it. The alternative I came up with works exactly the same. Spin Clean fluid contains no "magic ingredient" and it's effectiveness can be duplicated easily and at far less cost.

FWIW, there is still the heel of a bottle of Spin Clean fluid in my possession. Now several years old and no unusual substances or matter is present.

Just checked and mine is fine. I haven't used it in 5 years or so.
