Hi everyone,
I am thinking about getting a Dyna PAS-3 as I want to make the final step in making my setup fully tube from A to Z. Currently I am using an SP-9 mkii (a tube/SS hybrid) as my preamp. When I am not intently listening to music (podcasts etc) and want to save my tubes, I have the Tape/Recorder output on my sp9 hooked up to a cheap solid state integrated amp. This effectively turns my SP-9 into a "passive" channel switcher and sends the line-in signal directly to my SS integrated... The nice thing is I can use this feature with the SP9 completely off, thereby decreasing wear on the tubes. As I understand it, a lot of people employ the tape rec out in this manner when hooking their preamps to a dedicated headphone amp, as it sends a fixed level output that is identical to the line-in signal.
My question is whether the PAS-3 tape output is also functional when the unit is off like my SP9... as I understand it, this is the case with some preamps but not others. I've tried to look up a schematic of an PAS-3 but honestly don't know enough about tube topology to be able to tell if the tape out works when it's not powered.
Thanks in advance!
