PAS - New Power Cord

Hi, my first post. Boy, I could spend a lot of reading time here, tons of interesting stuff.
I have a question about replacing the power cord on a PAS that I am modifying. When I plug in the replacement cord, three prong, before connecting it to the PAS, and put the neg lead of my DVM to the green wire....I have 120 volts on the white wire and zero volts on the black. This is the opposite of what I expected.
I am also confused about where each wire goes. The PAS wiring diagram shows one leg of the power cord going to the switch and the other to a black transformer lead. The wire going to the switch is labeled "L" and the wire going to the transformer is labeled "N". I don't know which is supposed to be the hot wire.
Also, should I use the white wire from the cord as the hot wire?

I run the hot lead to a fuse, then to the switch. The neutral wire goes direct to the transformer. Not sure what Dynaco did originally but if that isn't how they did it, I'd change things. The original was not a polarized cord so you had a 50/50 shot of which was actually hot.


The other question is are your outlets wired correctly? Wouldn't be the first time I have run across backwards ones.
 
Sounds like maybe the outlet could be wired incorrectly. The way I understand your post, you are basically looking at the cord only, and seeing 120 on the white.
 
Thanks guys, the info is what I needed. I had recently purchased a desk-top power strip with 4 outlets and 4 USB charging ports. This was my second one as I had purchased another in February and really liked it's size, convenience, etc. After reading your posts I picked up a polarity tester and found both power strips wired wrong! Two of the four outlets on each strip were wired backwards! They are made by Mibote and I'll bet that every one they make is wired this way. I can send one back and Amazon wanted to send a replacement. I said nooo.
And thanks for the info on the wires to the switch. I do not see a fuse on this unit and think I will add one and run the black wire to the fuse and then to the switch. Good stuff
