Patching passive radiator cone of Polk S10

Picked up a pair of Polk S10 speakers at GW for $15.
What limited info I can find indicates that are a 2-way design with a passive radiator.
The cones in the woofer and passive radiator are plastic, and they have rubber surrounds.

No damage to the finish and only a couple of small flaws in the grill cloths.
Lots of cigarette smoke came off. Bleh...Sorry smokers.


One passive radiator cone has piece approx 2"x2" in size broken nearly out near the bottom edge.
I figured that I would pull the speaker, align the piece as best I could, and use Super Glue to the piece back into place.



I have patched paper cones before but never plastic.
Other than a thin piece of plastic (Solo cup, perhaps) I am unsure what a good fix will be.
The cone is gray in color. Graphite filled thermoplastic perhaps?
The material around the break feels quite brittle, so I need something stiff.

I hooked them up to my Sansui 771 and brought up Kenny Wayne Sheperd playing Little Wing on YouTube.
Volume level very modest.

Not 3 min. passed before the neighbour below my apartment was pounding on his ceiling.

You could fairly say the low frequency response is healthy.

I have read a mix of reviews for this speaker, but I think they sound great so far.
Feeling very lucky to have found these this evening...

3M weatherstrip adhesive works great, is the only thing I've used for years for speaker repairs. It can be found at most auto parts stores.

I used super glue bring the pieces into alignment and then criss-crossed several layers of packing tape over both sides.
That will have to do for now.

The bass response of these speakers is really solid.

My bass tone control knob is at 8:30 and these speakers still sound very strong on the low end.

I have a pair of those too, highly underrated! I agree, prodigious bass too. Very enjoyable speaker. Nice find and repair.

If the superglue holds and you can remove the tape, that may be best. Adding mass to the PR changes its response. Although you may only have a couple grams in that tape compared to much more in the cone itself. Just thinking out loud.

Agreed on the mass issue. I have no confidence in the super glue though. I just used it to hold the parts in alignment.
