Paul Kantner Gone...

MRL_Audio

RIP 2022
Another artist secombs to old age. Paul Kantner died last night at the age of 74. Been a bad start to the year. Guess I'll be getting my old Airplane / Starship LP's out today and we can watch the price of those goods increase for a week or two. Sad.

Sad indeed. We can expect more and more of this as the boomers get older. A lot of them have hard miles as well. RIP Paul..:(

RIP Paul.

I still like to listen to Airplane, Dead, and the many other great SF area bands. What an era and Kanter was one of the pioneers of it.

JA was an incredible band, especially when they played stuff like on "After Bathing At Baxter's" and "Crown of Creation".

In my opinion, JS - a watered down version and Starship even worse except for "Sara". And Grace Slick was the most beautiful woman in rock.

RIP, Paul.

..And Grace Slick was the most beautiful woman in rock...

Well, clearly a matter of opinion and wouldn't get my vote. Don't get me wrong. She was a huge part of the success of any incarnation of Airplane/Starship but...most beautiful?

Janis... naaa. I laughed out loud when I typed that. Stevie Nicks... near the top. Again all a matter of opinion and mine is but one.

Hehe, I was going to add to my post, "...and please don't say Janis Joplin." :D

Ah, Stevie, I love her but I still think Grace had more beauty. I know P.K. thought she was beautiful and I think they ALL thought she was beautiful and got to experience that "beauty" if you know what I mean.

PS ... long as we're off topic, why is this thread in "turntables"?

Also, as active as this topic is, and will continue to be, maybe time for it's own forum ...

It is enough already with the deaths! Saw the Airplane and Starship both. What should be known as "The Greatest Generation of Rock and Roll" is dying off. Truly sad.

Seems most these RIP notices appear here. If not here than where? This forum has seemed like a double duty forum of music appreciation (both the artistry and the way we listen) for a while. I am a somewhat noob but have read massive amounts of historical postings on AK.

Oddly, when Jerry died, pre internet, the GD stuff never moved the needle on prices.

Artists like Paul Kantner and bands like Jefferson Airplane will forever be tied to LPs. That's what they were on and, hence, turntables.

Let's not be, you know, too picky. It was perfectly fine to mention his passing in this forum.

I never had a crush on her, but I remember a friend who used to say of her, "I want to have her babies."

Funny! I used to say she got me wet. Another genuine looker was Pattie Santos of It's a Beautiful Day, another great band from then. She was sadly killed in 1989, at age 40, in a car accident of her own making.

I know this thread has gone completely astray but I think it's inevitable with these.

Ditto on Patti Santos and a fine 60's group in their own right. I think have all the commercially released Beautiful Day LP's. Regarding why here. Somebody already said it. These lost artists will be remembered for my generation as LP artists. LP's played on turntables. Hence the posting. There's a bigger thread in the Music forum but I generally don't participate there. Does it really bother you?
