Paypal keeps enabling autologin on any device you log in from

For the past 6 months or so, Paypal has been enabling auto-login from devices you successfully log in from. It sends you an email that says "stay logged in on this trusted device" indicating you no longer need to enter a password on that device. At the bottom of the email, it says "if this is a shared device, click here to turn it off". I shut it off every time, but if that alert email goes into the spam folder, you'd never know that a device you used was enabled for auto-login.

If you go into settings and manually turn off all auto-login, it will stop doing it automatically for a few weeks, and then resumes automatically enabling it. It's probably the most reckless and obnoxious tactic I've seen from any vendor given that Paypal can be used to send any amount to anyone.

Has anybody else seen this? Is there a solution?

I use PP almost everyday and have not noticed that. That said I may have it disabled somewhere in my settings, I tend to dig deep and shut all that stuff off, just because I d not remember doing it doesn’t mean I didn’t :rolleyes:

I will need to pay attention next time I logged in, just did a “go fund me” donation from a new laptop a couple hrs ago and didn’t receive an email.

Edit: double checked, no emails
 
I use an add-on password manager LastPass and avoid saving any passwords on my computer browser.

The text of the email says this (cut & paste): "Since we recognize this device, you’ll continue to stay logged in, so you can skip typing your password during certain activities such as check out".

Given that it says "we recognize this device", it may require two successful logins to trigger -- I can't really tell what criteria they use, but it has enabled it on devices I didn't want enabled. The fact that it keeps doing it after repeated disables is really annoying.

I'm like you, I never save passwords on any computer/browser. I don't even want auto-login on my own secure desktop -- but Paypal just removes the need to login. I'm diligent to look for it and turn it off every time, but it's annoying.

I second this suggestion. I use CCleaner regularly and get rid of of a lot of information that my computer saves whether I want it or not.

It doesn't help because it isn't the browser/computer that is auto-logging in, it's that Paypal no longer asks for password on checkout :eek:.

Here's the text -> "Since we recognize this device, you’ll continue to stay logged in, so you can skip typing your password during certain activities such as check out".
 
Haven't been able to log into PP since the split with eBay, and quite frankly, don't miss it ...

PS - it's mostly sites that use PP billing for payment that have issues. I just use a credit card for those.
 
I agree that PP is a good buffer. I don't really trust any of them 100%. But I would rather not trust just one online entity with my CC info than a bunch of them.


@peterp1 I haven't experienced the issue that you are having. PP always asks me for a password, and I only ever use just one computer to pay with or log into PP. Good luck getting it sorted out though...'cause you're right, that is not secure at all :eek:
 
There is more to this than my initial thoughts. My Costco login always self fills an old invalid password though I use LastPass which has my correct one. So every time I login to Costco, I have to delete the auto filled pwd and type in the valid one. Never gave it much thought, I never save any passwords other than on LastPass. A mystery. Also I use PayPal on all sites where I am not a regular customer which is only a handful.
 
Hope you guys are using defense. Open a paypal only bank account. Don't want the crooks draining you main account.
