Hello Everyone.
First of all i must apologize for any grammar errors, my English is pretty much basic.
I am considering to upgrade my PC speaker setup. I have been using some cheap 2.1 Microlab speakers for about a decade now, they have started breaking down and i need a replacement. I am considering to spend around 100-150 euros for a new system, with integrated amplifier. Purchasing sound card for PC, amplifier, cables, passive speakers is outside my budget.
- What will i use the speakers for?
Mostly Youtube, Gaming, Spotify...
- What is it that i DON'T want from new speakers?
I don't require some powerfull window shattering system, my room is not very large and therefore i don't require extremely powerfull bass and such...
- What is it that i WANT from new system?
I want decent sound quality and detail. For example i want my reaction to be "I never knew this song had such detail". I want to hear a more detailed musical instruments and movie scenes. Like upgrading from CRT 1024x768 to 1080p IPS monitor if that even makes any sense to you, but only in Audio universe...
So far i have considered some 2.1 and 2.0 bookshelf speakers. i will start from the least to most expensive systems. The speakers would be connected by mmotherboard sound card or Lusya Fever DAC.
- Microlab FC330
This is the cheapest 2.1 system that unusually has most recommendations at some forums in my country. However the thing that bugs me are the fake tweeters and power button at the subwoofer. In order to make this system usable for me i would need to put the subwoofer next to my moonitor but that woould probably cause magnetic interference. If i put it below the desk i allways have to crawl under the table which is one of the reasons why i wanted to replace my old speakers.
- Logitech Z623
Good thing about this system is that the controls are on the satellite and not on the subwoofer. However i think that they are overpriced (brand) and i think that the sound quality of the satellites does not match the price. But on the other hand this Logi does have powerfull subwoofer.
- Edifier S350DB
Flawless in my opinion but unfortunately costly... I might be crazy enough buy them, but my family would probably banish me for eternity.
- Edifier R1700BT
Moving on to bookshelf speakers... My personal favourite and longest running candidate. They mostly have nice reviews online but i stumbled upon some contradictory opinions about bookshelf speakers in general. Some say that you can never get good bass from cheaper systems without a subwoofer, some say buy 2.0 speakers and forget about subwoofers.
- Studio monitors?
There is also the posibillity of studio monitors. There are options like PreSonus Eris 3.5/4.5, Behringer, Fluid Audio etc... I know that studio monitors are mostly used for audio production, but they can be used for casuall needs also.
What is your opinion on those speakers? Is there something else that you would recommend me?
