PE Brand new repro Mach One woofers now available

I just got the new Parts Express flier in the mail and see they are now selling new reproduction woofers for both the old and the new Mach Ones. 4024 8 ohm version (1976-1981) or the 4029 4 ohm version (1982-1984). If you have a set that are blown or don't want to mess around with refoaming here you go! No affiliation.

Radio Shack produced the Realistic Mach One speaker for almost ten years, beginning in the 1970s. The Mach One 15" 3-way system is considered one of the finest loudspeakers offered by Radio Shack. Over time, many Mach Ones have been lost due to foam rot and old age. We've produced a 15" driver that features the same warm, thundering sound characteristics as the original, but thanks to contemporary materials and technology will last far longer. Now you can resurrect your set of Realistic Mach One speakers with completely new woofers, giving them a fresh lease on life!

Yeah but if you picked up some Mach Ones cheap I think they might be worth it. I'm not sure what they mean by contemporary materials and technology.

Contemporary materials in this case means a new foam formulation than the one from when these were manufactured. The foam on these drivers will last much longer than the 4029s, but probably not as long as the 4024s.

Interesting. PE is on to something....first the repo phenolic tweeters and now these. It will be interesting to see how these sell at this price or if they're heavily discounted after a few months. Denny....doesn't your pair need some woof woof attention? You should pick up a pair and let us know your impessions.

I haven't run the parameters on it yet, but the woof might make a good candidate for some DIY projects too.
When I first saw them, I ran a quick Unibox sim on a guestimate of 65L internal (of my Mach One cabs) , based upon external measurements and educated guesses of driver volume displacement etc. Qt was 1.25

FR and excursion.

It is a nice price for a replacement woofer, but there are probably dozens of woofers around that will perform as well or better than it for a scratch built DIY project.

I haven't built any speakers since the early 80s so cannot remember woofer specs all that well, but if this replacement is a good copy of the original, IMO this would be great for a DIY true acoustic-suspension design. To me anyway "real" a.s. woofers, like those seen in the original Mach, ARs, Advents, a/d/s etc always seemed to use thick-n-heavy cones to lower their resonance frequency so they go low in a small enclosure (sure they sucked more power but wow, that deep clean bass.....:music:), something I usually only see now in drivers intended for subwoofers, drivers which are so heavily built they aren't appropriate for conventional-speaker system use e.g. being able to be x'ed over at say 500Hz for a three way configuration.

The xmax is extremely limiting. For low output situations, it could work well but any attempts at pushing the SPL will result in rapidly escalating distortion. The specs indicate huge sealed boxes for a well damped enclosure or as someone else already calculated, a very high Q boombox if in a 2.5 cu ft box.
