peerless speakers

Anybody know about peerless speakers? Picked up some bookshelf speakers with 6 1/2 woofers. Solid construction and very heavy with binding post connections. No Name brand anywhere. Assuming they were custom made. A badge on front was T.S.W. That was it. Pulled woofer and said peerless speaker made in denmark. Seem to sound pretty good. Picked a pair up for 12$.

Peerless made/makes speaker drivers. I do not know if they ever made branded speakers out of those drivers. They are very well-regarded by many, especially the vintage ones. I've never seen a Peerless woofer, but I have a few speakers that have Peerless mids and tweets, and I'm quite pleased with them.

I'm afraid I do not know what 'T.S.W.' stands for on your speakers. But for the price you paid, I suspect you did well. Photos?

These are the best bookshelf monitors I've ever had :thmbsp: now on yours TSW is probably the manufacturer

as wigwam said peerless oem'd drivers to may speaker manufacturer's I did a search on AK and in about 5 pages no TSW showed up aside from the AR TSW line so they probably are one of many small companies out there that probably folded Given the driver compliment they're probably fine sounding speakers and well worth the $12 you paid for them

One of the great Danish Driver design and manufacturing firms responsible populating many great speaker designs. I believe they are now a subsidiary of Scan Speak. I think I read somewhere that Scan Speak, Vifa, and Peerless are all related in terms of the design engineers that worked on them.

Nice find! I have a satelite/sub system that is branded SEA(not SEAS). All Peerless drivers-from the 90s I think.Sounds awesome in our camper.

Peerless drivers have been very well thought of for years.
They are quite popular with the DIY speaker crowd also, as they are usually a cheaper option than Scanspeak, Focal, Morel, etc.

+1 peerless drivers rock !!

And many datasheets on the web, so look for your drivers part number or model, for sure you'll find specs.

OK guys thanks for all the help. I"m gonna have to say a small time manufacturer that went under. Found 2 more at same GW and grabbed them too. Senior citizen day. Got'em for 10$ for the pair. Got 4 now. Sound great for a small speaker.

If you found a bunch, they could've been used in a commercial application, and built by a small commercial sound company. I know my area GW stores often get huge liquidations from commercial entities that are either upgrading current locations or closing down old ones. Maybe these sets were used in an office or in a retail setting?

You may be exactly right. All 4 had some type of hook screwed to the back. In addition I have seen empty boxes which look like they may have been made from same person or manufacturer in different GW's. Some of these boxes were smaller without drivers in them and had natural finish with the rounded outside corners. all look like same style build. The ones I found were real dirty and were probably used in an outside envirnoment like restaurant or bar that could have shutdown. My 2 cents. sorry for the double post

jkd, I see a TSW badge on the grill on the right in the pic attached to message 4, above. If those are the speakers you got, you very likely have TSWs.
