Peerless tweeter copies

I have a pair of Polk Monitor 7Cs that have the SL-2000 tweeter. Never been a fan of the SL-2000s and was thinking about changing them out for a pair of Peerless. It's damn near impossible to find original Danish made anymore. Anyone tried the Chinese copies?

Why not just buy the Polk replacement for the SL-2000. The RD0-194 is still available and sounds much better than the SL-2000.

Swapping speaker drivers can also involve crossover modifications. I'd pose your question on the Polk audio forum.

I've already provided the definitive answer. In addition to not being a match the mounting screw holes and bezel cut out are not the same.

Many Peerless speakers were made here in Massachusetts, so looking you may find some "Made In USA" units...

I've used the RDO-194 before in a pair of SDA-1Bs. The SL-2000s were pretty shrill, but to me the RDO-194s were too laid back, kind of blah.

It's still going to be the wrong frequency response and parameters to match up with the original Polk SL2000, in that speaker. They have a different dome material, different moving mass, different magnet strength, and are slightly different in surround dimensions. The crossover used for the SL2000-equipped models would have to be changed out for one that used the Peerless, for it to work.

You'd probably be better off to try a SL2500 or SL3000 (RD0198 and such)- the even later model Polk tweeter. Much closer match to the parameters and response shape of the SL2000, but without some of the deficiencies of the SL2000.

Regards,
Gordon.

Using the RD0198-1 tweeter would require a crossover modification. Some think adding a 5.8uF cap addresses that. However, that is up for debate.

I wound up doing the TL mod on my SDA 1Bs. Sounded way better than the RDO-194s. you have to add a coil and the 5.8uf cap. I'll have to take a look at the crossovers on my 7Cs to see if it's feasible.
