Peerless Tweeter in Infinity 3000

Does anyone know if the 2.5” Peerless tweeter in the 3-way Infinity 3000 (not the later RS3000) is nominally 8- or 4-ohms?

I found a guy selling one, and it LOOKS identical to the 2.5” Peerless MTR25 that I need for one of my Rectilinear III speakers. But apparently Peerless made them in both 4- and 8-ohm versions. The Rectilinear uses the 8-ohm version. Thus, my original question: Are the ones in Infinity 3000 speakers the 4- or 8-ohm tweeters?

Many of these Peerless tweeters have the impedance stamped onto the cone in white or gray ink. If you look hard on yours, you may find remnants of that markings.

Yessir! My original (Rectilinear) tweets are clearly marked 8 ohm. Some replacements are also marked, but the used one I found from the Infinity 3000 does not have any such markings.

By the way, the one I am seeking is the earlier version with round (and notched) frame, rather than the square frame as you posted. From what I can tell, the square ones have a model number of "MT" followed by numerals for size (in inches): MT25 = 2.5". The round ones have model number starting with "MTR" ("R" for round).

The round ones seem to be harder to find.

I wish we weren't still under partial quarantine here- as a volunteer organization I work with, HAS a pair of Infinity 3000 speakers. But, with the restrictions, I can't get into that location to pull a tweeter out and measure it...

That said- the seller can't get access to a volt-ohm meter himself? It'd only take an instant to settle this question...

There are currently two sellers of these Infinity 3000/4000 Peerless made cone tweeters on FleaBay, one a Buy It Now and the other on auction. The auction one does not mention if the tweeter has been tested and is working or not which is a huge red flag on FleaBay from my personal experience.

The Buy It Now seller has two for sale and mentions he tested both and got a resistance reading of 8.4 ohms on the two measured units.

The yellowish frame color and utter lack of markings were exclusive to these tweeters ordered by Infinity from Peerless.

Yeah, you're right about that. Aside from confirming the rating (4 vs 8) it will verify continuity. I've asked him couple of times. He keeps saying he'll get to it, but no response yet. Starting to sound fishy.

Yeah, I'd seen those also. I was a bit hesitant for a couple of reasons. They have no markings and no mention is made of what they were pulled from. My Rectilinear versions are black, as is the single untested one from auction seller (who states it was removed from an Infinity 3000). Also, all pic I've seen of Infinity 3000 seem to show black painted frames (see attached). Thus, I was leery that the natural gold ones were maybe copies.

Also the one in buy-it-now photo looks nice, but seller originally had several and mentions they are "B-grade" with corrosion and some dust cap dimples. So, that was a bit scary.

Maybe I just need to hang tight till one with markings shows up.... :-(
