As someone mentioned about, there are tons of youtube videos with binaural beats at different frequencies supposedly for various ailments. I tried a few a while back for relaxation and the like. I think headphones are necessary in this case. They definitely didn't make me high, but they were relaxing.

A binaural beat is an illusion created by the brain when you listen to two tones with slightly different frequencies at the same time.

Your Brain and Binaural Beats
Your brain interprets the two tones as a beat of its own. The two tones align with your brain waves to produce a beat with a different frequency. This frequency is the difference in hertz (Hz) between the frequencies of the two tones.

For example, if you are listening to a 440 Hz tone with your left ear and a 444 Hz tone with your right ear, you would be hearing a 4 Hz tone.

When you listen to binaural beats, your brain activity matches the frequency set by the frequency of the beat. This is called the frequency-following effect. This means you can use binaural beats to entrain your mind to reach a certain mental state.

The superior olivary complex and binaural beats. Located in the brain stem, the superior olivary complex is the first part of the brain that processes sound input from both ears. The superior olivary complex synchronizes various activities of the many neurons in the brain. This complex responds when it hears two close frequencies and creates a binaural beat, which changes the brain waves. The synchronization of the neural activities across the brain is called entrainment.

Entrainment isn’t just related to binaural beats. It is a common part of brain function. According to some researchers, when you listen to certain binaural beats, they can increase the strength of certain brain waves. This can increase or hold back different brain functions that control thinking and feeling.

 
Binaural beats have a simple explanation. Take a 400hz tone at one ear and 401hz at the other. At the start of the tones the stimuli are in phase. They have 0 interaural (between ear) difference in phase. On headphones you hear a sound centered between the ears. As the tones play the phase at one ear begins to lag the phase at the other ear and perceptually the sound moves toward the ear with leading phase. At a half of a second into the stimulus the tones are 180 deg out of phase. At this point then the phase at the other ear begins to lead and you now instantly hear the stimulus on the opposite side of the head and this image moves back towards the midline. At 1 second the tones are back in phase and the image is back at the midline.
For those unfamiliar with phase, because the frequency is defined a phase difference can be readily interpreted as a difference in time between the ears. So basically binaural beats are changing systematically the time difference between the ears over the 1hz beat cycle.

To summarize over one cycle of the beat (1hz in this case) the image moves from the midline to completely towards one ear at a half second then flips instantly completely to the other ear and then moves over the back towards the midline by 1 second.

In the other examples the beat is 40 Hz. So the process I described above occurs 40 times in one second. We can’t track auditory motion at that rate. So it just sounds like a buzz but which fills the head.
