Perseid meteor shower peak this weekend

Gonna try to drag my butt out sometime after midnight with the DSLR on a tripod with the wide lens and try a few LONG exposures

As it turns out, northeast is the least open sky view at the NH house... but We'll try South/East and hope for the best! ;-)

I'd like to go out for this too but it's been so cloudy here lately don't know if I'll be able to.

I went out for a bit... No camera though. I saw maybe 50 or so. Probably more had my eyes been better adapted.

A few years ago, the Leonids were... Absolutely amazing! Saw so many I couldn't even guess a number. 500 or 1,000. Maybe more. The showers between then and last night were near a total bust for me.

Been nothing but storm clouds and heavy rain here for the past nine days. I won't get to see them.

Yeah - it was phenomenally clear here last night. No photos because I was too sleepy to want to fiddle with the camera (even though I'd pre-mounted it on a sturdy tripod prior to going to bed last night). Only saw a couple but we didn't work too hard at it either ;-) The ones we saw were nice and bright.

Been nothing but storm clouds and heavy rain here for the past nine days. I won't get to see them.

Man, we could use some of that rain. Here in Indy, it's hasn't rained more than .05" in the last couple weeks. It's been a crazy weather year. One month tied an all-time record for rain, another got within a half an inch of a record but the other months have been so dry that we're about 7" or 8" below average for the yearly total.

But yeah... even when you only see a couple they are rewarding, esp on a nice, clear night.

My wife and I were out in the yard last night about 2 AM between a break in the clouds. We were sitting there quiet in the dark and all of a sudden two kids jump my fence and cut across my lawn! They had black hats on and I'm sure they were up to no good. They didn't see my wife and I said something and they took off. Called the police and let them know and they said they would send a car over to look around. Unbelievable!
