Petra Cable for phono interconnects

Thanks guys. I could probably go with a 3ft. length depending on how ridgid the cable is. I figured with the low impedance I could use 6ft with no cutting. I am so lazy.

So I just was about to pull the trigger on the cables. So if my thinking is correct, if I order 2 six foot set, I will actually have 3 L/R sets. One for my TT to pre amp, then preamp to amp. Then I could use the other discarded video cables as a L/R from a tape deck?

That is correct.

Wow! I ordered two 6 foot Petras on Tuesday. It's Saturday and they arrived today. My 2 main tables have RCA outputs, so I connected only one to see if I could hear a difference. I then used the remaining piece from one cable cut in half for my Marantz with the butchered cable job. These things really work great. Thanks Howard. I still have another piece left to use on the next table...:D that I don't have yet.

OK, I cheated & used a 6' set of PE cheapo component cable. My SL-Q2 had replacement cables already, possibly RatShack interconnect. I used the outer leads, red & green, leaving the center (blue) lead for maybe using as a ground lead in the future. These things have nickel colored RCA's, really cheap! I made the length about 4 feet.
I swear that the noise floor is lower,& the overall response is better! I guess I'll upgrade the RCA's with Daytons or something similar, but I'm not in a hurry! Thanks, Howard!

My set of Petra's have been installed and in use for a few months on my TT and they sound great. I'm now running a different power amp/line stage combo that does not have a phono stage built in and will be buying a dedicated phono stage (likely the Cambridge 640p) so I can listen again to vinyl. Since I'll be ordering a new set of Petras for the Line Stage to Phono Stage connection (per the recommendations above), I'm also in need of a new set of interconnects from my CD/DVD player to the new line stage.

Can the same Petra cables be used with similar success/sound quality in the digital domain? I see others are using the Petra's equally well for tape, but anyone using them CD > Preamp/linestage?....and how do they sound?

Thanks,
Mike

If you browes around that site there are different cables for different applications , i also when i ordered got some of the digital cables to run from my cd player , i should have them by the end of the week .

I used my second set on my Nakamichi cassette deck. There's an audible difference! vast improvement- not as pronounced as the TT though.

I'm gonna order a second set for the tape-in on the cassette and for my Pioneer H-R100 8 track deck.

Just out my turntable back together & WOW!! HUGE difference in the sound , between this & the Litz headshell wires , man it's a whole new turntable !!

Thanks so much again to Howard for these great links on these cables , eaxctly what i needed , really appreciate it .:thmbsp:

ok-- i did a cable swap on an sl 1400 semi junker i've had around for a long time, and that went well with the petras. i am now ready to do my sl 1700, and discovered a much greater level of disassembly required, which i gamely did. discovered the rca cables terminating into a pcb, which kinda freaks me out, as i'm a soldering freshman as it is, and i've never done it on pcb. the other terminus is a plug with two wires carrying right and left signals from the tonearm. anybody have good ideas for a novice on the best way to move forward?

OK, a thought. it seems that maybe the best plan would be to leave the pcb alone, and instead connect it to some chassis mount rca jacks. thoughts?

That's fine. Using the short length of original cable from the PCB to the jacks should not be a problem. Then that gives you the option of trying different ICs. But I still think you'll like the Petras. :D

thanks howard. have you ever de-soldered/soldered new cable to the technics pcb? i know you're deep with technics know-how....

Not a 1700, but others with PCB. Are any other wires (like tonearm wires) soldered to the same pads? If not, it shouldn't be too difficult. I did a writeup of how I did it on the Pioneer PL-600 complete with pics. Don't know if it would be of help, but here it is:
