Phase Linear 4000

Dear Friends

I'm Roberto and I write from Italy. I would appreciate clarification on the operation of the Phase Linear 4000 that is in my possession.

My 4000 drives two amplifiers - two connected to the 400 series L - R and 700B connected to LR - RR (rear). I notice that when I place the rear Joystick up playing a reverb type "concert at" and the sound emphasizes the lower and middle. However, when the joystick is at the center have a good sound output as well as on the (front)

Even if I reverse the final positions with LR LR-RR, the result on the "rear" does not change the reverb is always there. E 'is a feature of the 4000 or a failure?

Help me to understand or configured address on someone who can help me.

Anxiously await an answer

Regards Roberto

I attach a short paragraph taken from the service manual of the equipment

No help here...

But I too would like to find an explanation of the functions of this Pre-amp. I recently got one that I haven't even hooked up yet, and can't seem to find any documentation on how the "unusual" controls are used.

At the risk of hijacking Roberto's thread, in addition to his question, I would like to know about: Unlimit Threshold, LF Cal, Correlation Threshold, Active Equalizer, and Cartridge Loading. You know pretty much everything not found on a standard Pre-amp.

Roberto, I would say welcome to the board, but as you can see, I'm new here myself. If anyone is upset about my questions, I'll happily remove them.

Thanks,

Zach

Someone else will be able to tell you for sure as I don't own the 4000, but I do own the 3500 and my 3500 does not have outputs for LR & RR.

I read somewhere (here, I think) that the LR & RR connections on the 4000 are not for the full stereo signal out, but produce a reverb type of signal. I kinda want to say that it was Phase Linears early attempt at HT or surround type of audio but don't quote me on this.

Hi Roberto -

I also own a PL4000 and have the original owners manual for it. Back in its day this was a pretty sophisticated piece of equipment and by "fiddling" and playing around with the various controls, you can do some neat things with the music in the room, etc. Anyway, if you can find a copy of the owners manual online (I've seen them there for sale) it will fully explain in detail what each control and function does. This would be of help to you in being able to enjoy what this preamp is capable of when properly set up. Hope this helps...............

Regards, Terry
