Phase Linear and Sonus Faber

Could I safely operate a nominally rated 4 ohm speaker with the 4-8 ohm Phase Linear 400 series II?

Hello all,

I would like feedback and opinions on the pairing of the Sonus Faber Cremona (floorstander) and Phase Linear 400 ser II. I am researching the Sonus Faber Cremona to potentially acquire for my tube setup, but would also like to utilize them with my solid state, Phase Linear setup. I enjoy swapping out components from time to time.

I am aware of the Sonus Faber Cremona impedance curve, as Stereophile detailed its dips into 2.8 ohms in the lower mid frequencies, so I ask if my Phase Linear 400 II would be an (okay) match should I want to swap around speakers in the house. I presume it is okay, albeit not the best match obviously! But I have read positive feedback after other users here heard the Cremonas hooked up to receivers in the past.

I want to upgrade to a three way speaker, as I currently drive a B&W CM6.

Phase Linear 400 at this point is getting a little long in the teeth unless it has been overhauled. Just be careful hooking up and large investment speakers I guess. If it hasn't been serviced, look into the White Oak options.

Thanks and I agree. I should look into WOPL conversions, I see significant upgrade opportunity and suppose better capability to drive high current speakers.
 
A WOPL up graded phase linear is a pretty special/remarkable amp. Really brings out the the best in every speaker I have ever hooked up to it and effortlessly. Plus sports that great vintage look still.

Thanks again. Should I WOPL up the phase amp, is it still advised to use cooling fans for high current applications?
