Phase Linear P580 - I WANT!

hi all,

i've been loving my Yamaha NS-1000M for years. they are actually pretty common by japanese hi-fi standards. my ultimate lust would be a pair of pioneer S-955. suspended beryllium dome mids and TAD beryllium RIBBON TWEETERS! yes please! ;-)

my friend recently told me that phase linear imported the 955 under the PL brand as the P580. one day i do hope to find a pair.

has anybody had any personal experience with these speakers?

see ya,
Robby

You better hope I don't find them first :D

Although I'd really like the Pioneer branded ones...

Perfect! I would only buy locally anyway...which means I won't ever get a pair, probably...

they got to kick ass like nobodys buisness , i been looking awhile and cant find either the jap or usa ones

okay, much thanks to John for a pair of REALLY NICE Phase Linear P-580 speakers. just a most awesome 40th birthday present to me :-)

the woofers are with Dan Olson at Audivex in Berkeley, CA. he's trying to find a suitable surround for them. they are actually 14.5" woofers. there's a dude on ebay that sells what he says are Pioneer S-955 woofers, but Dan said the dimensions are all off. and the surround roll isn't even close.

i just emailed pioneer, i doubt they will be of much help. Dan can make surrounds, if need be. he might also be able to mod some JBL LE-14 surrounds, but he said he rather take some time to research first.

100 years ago - I heard a set of the smaller ones, not sure if they were the 530 or 560 - hooked up to a kenwood KR9050. Nothing but impressed, they sounded excellent. Good find Robby - I hope you get the surrounds sorted out

Wow! Cool thread. I never knew these existed. DSS 9 are similar, with Boron midranges and Beryllium tweeters. Yes, they would be better than HPM in my opinion.
