Phase Linear System

I have a phase linear Stereo system I bought in the 1970s. I have the pre-amp, amp, tuner, receiver and cassette player/recorder, and 150 watt per channel speakers. The only thing wrong with is it the the battery on the 7000 microscan cassette player. I had a friend in management at Phase Linear he told what to get and set up delivery from Pacific Stereo in Los Angeles. I am trying to decide what to do with it. I am not a huge audiophile but really enjoyed the music of the 60s and 70s on this system (Pink Floyd, Cream, Blind Faith, John Mayall, Moody Blues etc) I just came into a good collection of cassettes from that era. My family is not impressed and just want me to sell it all. any thoughts. I am curious as to what is worth. if is worth a lot they may let me keep it. I also wonder if I can use it with digital media

Worth depends on what you have. There is a big difference a PL-700, and PL-200....and what state they are in.
I have three Phase Linear amp's, and one pre-amp. Fell in love with the look, and dare I say performance.
Some people don't care for them because of the "Flame Linear" rep they got years ago, but I have never had a problem with mine.
So what do you have?

Well first let me say Welcome to AK. Hope you will hang out with us for awhile.
I guess that if you really like the sound and looks of your PL gear you might want to listen to it for awhile
and then decide if you want to sell it. It's some good stuff.
Plus, If you play a lot of your families fav. songs they might convince you to keep it........ :dunno:

My humble lil Phase Linear 200 Amp is all i have left of my ol system. That's because it works so well. It would not be possible to account for the many hours of pleasure it has given me.
If I were you I would keep it. The system as a whole is somewhat rare. You have had it for all these years so it has history. It's not hurting anything right?
If you were to engage it I seriously doubt there would be any regrets. Some people are just not into listening to music. Only you know this. As for the family not being impressed that can change quickly, unexpectedly. Without giving it some use I do not believe you can not make a rational decision. Turntable??
I for one would like to see a picture of the whole system together. If you have the manual please make sure you document on HiFiEngine.com if they do not already have them.
Welcome.

Welcome.
Thanks for the opinion. I believe I have all the original manuals. The system was not used very much so is probably in good condition It has been in storage for over 20 years

I have a 3300 Series Two Pre-Amp and a 5100 Series Two Tuner

It's probably worth a decent amount, but questions about value belong in the Dollars & Sense forum (perhaps this will be moved there). But chances are that most of the components will need servicing (especially the tape deck, which was OEMed by Pioneer) before they're back to their original specs.

As to whether you can use it with digital media, you can, in any number of ways. You can of course add a CD player, or get a USB DAC with left/right outputs to use with a computer. Or you can get a Bluetooth receiver or Google Chromecast audio to stream from a phone.

Thanks for the info I like the bluetooth possibility

We need pics. And to know which amp you have. Real value is in the eye of the beholder, as could be said for nearly all hi-fi. Condition obviously plays a big part in this. Since these items are 40 years old some restoration and updating will more than likely be needed. Even if they have been in storage.
I had a Phase Linear 400. That was a monster. Definitely a keeper.

We would need some particulars to be able to give you an honest opinion on the worth.
As Old-School said, the condition is important and if you have never had them serviced then they are due.
I love my C-4000, 400 and 700B, 8000 II as well as the Andromeda's.
Bob made some good S**t and still does.
And what speakers do you have??
