Phil Hill has passed away....

Motor racing legend and the only American-born Formula One world champion Phil Hill has died tonight in a California hospital due to complications from Parkinson's disease. He was 81 years old.

Phil Hill won the world championship driving for Ferrari in 1961, becoming the first American to do so, later to be followed only by Mario Andretti. But Hill remains to date the only native-born American to win the title.

May he rest in peace.

A great driver and a great gentleman. One of the last of his kind.

Great writer too.

Truly saddened by this.....

One of the greats along with Dan Gurney. I'll have to get Grand Prix out and watch it in memory... R.I.P. Phil....

I wonder if we'll ever see another American F1 champion again.

RIP.

Doubt it.

Sad day, the two people I wanted to meet before I died (or they died) was Phill Hill and James Dewar (lead singer for Robin Trower), so now they are both unattainable. Oh well guess watching old videos of him race is just as good!

A TRUE American Legend and Gentelman! He will be missed BTW I picked up a lithograph of him in a Morgan at speed with a smile on his face the day he died. We will miss him!
