Picked up this console I don’t even know how long ago. Rebuilt the 290t receiver and made a base for it and there it sat. I was just going to sell it until the girlfriend said she liked it so I decided to put it in the parlor (just what we call the room that collects junk. I found these cool Panasonic speakers at gw for $15. They are a single speaker design. I took out the old 16ohm 3 watt speakers and replaced them with some 6” ev’s with a whizzer cone. Let me tell you, this setup sounds waayyyy better than it should. The full range speakers do a great job of handing all the frequencies I’ll ever need for a few watts and the Panasonic speakers go well with the mid century look she was looking for. It even looks good with the Hoffman tv that I put a flatscreen in.

I have one of those that gets used for shop computer sound duty. Sounds better than it seems like it ought to given the weenie transformers and all that. Tuner is pretty good too. Mine is paired with an old set of Bose 201.

The EL95 amp I built with those transformers sounds pretty amazing for what it is. The circuit is pretty much the same as original but with some tweaks and improvements.
