Philips 212 Info Needed (bulbs)

Hey AK,

Anyone out there know a source for bulbs used in the Philips 212 TT? I have one I'm attempting to resurrect for a friend......and after removing the goo that was formerly the belt, I'm back to re-assembly. However, I just noticed that 2 of the 3 bulbs are completely missing. I believe there's a 4th bulb in the 'opto-coupler' that's part of the auto-shutoff mechanism. So, my plan is to replace all 4 bulbs if I can find them. The one bulb that remained in the 'stop' position is marked as: Philips 6V 0,05A 7121D MRY I'm not absolutely sure about the 'MRY' part.....as it looked a bit like (MRY- but stamped bulbs aren't always the easiest to read.

Anyway....... any help here would be REALLY appreciated! I can't find anything anywhere..... including all the 'usual' auction sites.....

Many thanks, WC

There is a guy that sometimes sells kits with the bulbs, a belt, and a power switch (as the switches frequently fail), but I haven't seen any of them up lately. Other than that, if you can find the bulbs, they're expensive (prohibitively so), or some people have had luck with LEDs and adding in a resistor. Personally, I didn't have luck with the LEDs, but I may have been installing the resistor incorrectly, or not the correct value, or some combination of the above!

Hey Dan,

I'm really not looking to re-engineer the unit.......and as such, I'm hopeful that I can find the correct bulbs without having to sacrifice an arm, leg, or left nut (but that's the nut that would go first.......lol).

However, in thinking I may have a devil of a time finding these bulbs, I did do some checking, and it seems that having the proper resistance in the circuit may be critical. To that end I found an 'Ohm's Law Calculator' on line and plugged in the values of 6 volts and 0.05 amps for the touch-sensor bulbs, and it appears that the correct resistance in that circuit would be about 120 ohms. The Opto-coupler bulb at 100ma would have a resistance of 60 ohms, however I think the need for proper wattage or 'brightness' in this circuit might affect it's proper function. The feedback from many of the posts would indicate that this is really rather hit-or-miss......so seem to work with different bulbs while others don't.

The good news is that I think if I can find some little screw-in base bulbs that measure about 120 ohms....... I can use 'em regardless of voltage. They may not burn as brightly....or maybe even brighter if rated at a lower voltage. But, I think that 120 ohm number is what is critical.....or the 60 ohm number in the opto coupler (auto-stop circuit) side of things.

If you've got a 'lead' on bulbs....please let me know. But, I do thank you for the note! I appreciate the info!

Regards,

Tom D.
