Philips 476

Looking for an inexpensive setup for my garage and there is a pair of these near me for $200. There is a thread from about 10 years ago discussing the quality of these and the 477s, but the prices mentioned there seem very outdated (much lower). From the pictures, they look to be in very good condition, so I might go try and listen to them, but I wanted to gauge their value. There's a pair of 477s on ye olde auction site for $195 in Cali, so that's the only other thing I have to go on.

That sounds very reasonable. Just remember that if you want to talk value about a certain set of speakers then you should post in Dollars and Sense.

But these speakers have both a Philips dome midrange and a Philips dome tweeter so they probably sound really good if they are working correctly. I would love to have a pair anyway...

These may be too nice for a garage however...

Do you really want to put these beautiful things in the garage? I would not. Too nice...

@coonmanx thanks so much for the response and sorry for the noob move posting to the wrong sub-forum.
It's very likely that these will end up in the living room. I currently have a pair of KEF Q150s, but nothing special driving them. That should change whenever I finish my Pioneer SX-950 project, and I've been thinking that I should have some vintage speakers with it instead of the KEFs. I'm totally new to the hobby since the 950 and a Sansui 5000a fell into my lap, so I need some speakers for my workspace (the garage) for testing.
Anyway, I have reached out to the seller and I'll go check them out soon, and will leave with them in all likelihood thanks to you!

One of my good friends has 2 sets of these. Well one set has 10s and the other has 12s. He loves them. I refoamed both sets for him and i must admit they sound excellent. The mids are soooo sweet.

Since I already own three sets of speakers that utiliize a Philips tweeter and I love the sound I was starstruck a bit when I ran across the Philips speakers on the Bay. Only problem was the price, given that getting them shipped was expensive. But if my budget was larger I would have snapped them up in an instant. And the fact that they have Philips dome midranges as well.... Well, sign me up. Beautiful looking speakers as well...

I have two sets of these 476's. I traded out one set of the 476's tweeters and midranges with textile tweeters and midranges. Both sound good, but I like the textiles the best. The 476's are really nice speakers. I bet the 477's are also, but I have never heard them.
